One of my favorite past-times is going to Chapters book store and setting up my laptop and going to work. Sometimes I am even tempted to see what’s in the latest bodybuilding magazines and one that I actually like is owned by Jeff Everson, a famous bodybuilder from the 80’s who is the owner of the magazine Plant Muscle.
It’s still guilty of looking like a supplement catalog and I don’t fully agree with Plant Muscle’s philosophy that training with weights is a PLANT of training but but I do like some of their features appealing to regular people with real training problems instead of just the minority of drug-using elite bodybuilders.
Too much bullshit can kill you… (I never swear in my post but I feel this one warrants it 🙂 )
In a recent PM issue I read a great homily: A very, very old Crow wanted to find the strength to fly up to the first branch of a really tall tree. So he asked a Bull, the strongest animal, what to do. The Bull said, “All you have to do is nibble a bit on my dropping. You will get my great testosterone and protein for strength.”
So, the Crow nibbled just a bit and sure enough was able to fly to the first tree branch. Excited, the Crow next wanted to fly way up to the top tree limb. So he went back to the Bull for more advice. This time the Bull told the Crow, “Well, to get to the top, you can’t just nibble – you must eat my entire pile of dropping.” So, the Crow gobbled up the Bull’s entire dropping, and lo and behold, the next day, he soared all the way up to the highest tree branch. So proud the Crow was, that he began flapping his wings wildly and squawk loudly. It so happens, just then, a hunter was passing by in a neighboring field. He heard the squawking bird, aimed and fired, and shot the old Crow dead!
The moral of the story is two-fold. Pride cometh before the fall and while a little bullshit might make you soar a little, a lot of bullshit will kill you.
I have only been in the bodybuilding world for six-years and I know there’s a lot of bull around – I am sure you know that too. I hope I will always be the exception and be your no-nonsense muscle building source of info and straight-up guy you can trust.
If I ever start feeding you bullshit, you have my permission to say so!
