Top 3 Muscle Destroying Enemies

By

Vince Del Monte, WBFF Pro Fitness Model, Certified Fitness Trainer
and Nutritionist and author of No Nonsense Muscle
Building.

Hey Scrawny!  Yeah, I am talking to you.  Do you even know what you’re up against?

Are you aware that no one gives a flying rip about you?  Tell someone that you are trying to gain weight and build some muscle and they’ll roll their eyes and walk away – they don’t want to hear it Skinny.

Now if you had a weight loss problem, that’s a completely different story especially if you live in North America.  You can choose from a buffet of weight loss options: books, diets, self-appointed fitness gurus with their TV and radio shows who claim that they have the solution to your problems.

But if you’re known as Tooth Pick or Bean Pole, you’re out of luck my friend.  No one could give two hoots about your cursed skinny genetics. I discovered this when I was 22 and went looking for someone to rescue me from my world of skinniness.  I went searching for a muscle building savior but only found enemies coming to me in sheep’s clothing but disguised as wolves hungry to devour me.

Here are the top three most cleverly disguised Enemies preventing you from having a first-rate body that demands confidence, attraction and respect..

Enemy #1: The Pro Bodybuilder

You’ve heard it before, “Train like a bodybuilder to become a bodybuilder…”

This is the message screamed by everyone in the bodybuilding world and on the surface sounds perfectly logical. However, messages like this mislead millions of sheep with irresponsible training nonsense that will wreak havoc on your body.

The Truth is that imitating the training of champion bodybuilders is one of the most costly frauds in the exercise world!  Because the instruction from elite bodybuilders has no practical relevance for average people like you and me.

People who are without gifted genetic potential, and don’t want syringe scars in our butts.  Not only is this training advice useless, but it will cause over-training, injuries and illness.

The magazines who share the pro bodybuilders workouts  will not tell you that drugs and genetics were responsible for curing their problem of being a hardgainer.  They claim it’s the supplements and “better training.” Give me a break!

Enemy #2: The Muscle Rags aka Bodybuilding Magazines

You’ve heard this before, “If you want to increase your strength and have spectacular muscle growth, just follow the magazines…”

Every bodybuilding magazine claims they have the answers. But in fact, they would prefer to keep the real answers from you. From some nonsense I’ve seen I am lead to believe it is their job to keep the real answers from you!

If you’ve followed this prophets advice to gain weight, build muscle and increase strength then you already know that you’re guaranteed only one thing. 6 months from today, you will look just like you do now! And you’ll be pissed off.  Not only will you build no muscle by following the sheep, but you will create muscular losses – fast. And you will become weaker!  Can you honestly say that your strength has increased incrementally over the years?

The Truth is that almost every single one of the training schedules in muscle magazines is outright hogwash.  The authors fail to discuss two of the most critical components in exercise – one is good and one is bad:

“Intensity of effort” is good – Anything that greatly increases the intensity of exercise will greatly improve it.

“Amount of exercise” is bad – It is the amount of exercise that exhausts your recovery ability and makes growth impossible. It can even create a loss in your hard earned muscle size and strength.

Enemy #3: The Supplement Mafia

You’ve heard this a million times, “The body of your dreams is locked inside this liquid… this powder… or these pills.”

According to the “experts” reviewing products in magazines, the latest scam – ah… I mean supplement is “the one” that’s going to perform magic on your body.

It’s “the one that is designed especially for guys like you. There’s only one problem. This new supplement designed just for you, has the same crap in it that the last supplement had in it. These “experts” are nothing more than pumped up salesmen.  And how do you know when a salesman is lying to you? His lips are moving! Ask yourself this:  Did the last product you were sold deliver what it promised? I already know the answer.  You’re here, aren’t you?

The Truth is that every major fitness magazine is owned and operated by a supplement company. The bulk of their income doesn’t come from magazine subscriptions or newsstand sales, but from the pills and powders they use to pump cash out of your pocket. Let me repeat that again… The bulk of their money is made by selling you crap! And here is the kicker…Supplement companies actually give out false training information on purpose!

Let me be more specific…

The majority of the bodybuilding information written by “the experts” is complete and total nonsense designed to make you fail, so that you’ll continue to rely on their products for results.

Results that will never come!

How much faith would you have in a restaurant review if it was written by that restaurant’s chef? Supplement companies are the chef… the waiter… the busboy and the owner.

Don’t believe me? You can look it up, just like I did.

  • Iron Man is owned by Muscle Linc.
  • Muscle Media was formerly owned by EAS.
  • Muscular Development is owned by TwinLab.
  • Status is owned by Magnum Nutraceuticals

And the big daddy of them all. The Grand Poobah… The Trump of Fitness… Weider Enterprises owns pretty much everything else.

  • Muscle And Fitness
  • Muscle And Fitness Hers
  • Flex
  • And More…

Basically…the guys who give glowing reviews about crap… work for the companies who make the crap! And get this – Weider Publications is now owned by the same people who own the National Enquirer and Star! Let that sink in for a moment.

(There are still a few supplements I recommend which you can check out in my blog post best bodybuilding supplements)

Okay, I am ready for your comments and have ONE question for you…

1. What’s the worst thing about being skinny?  Get as detailed and graphic as you wish.

Thanks

Vince

  1. Hey Vince, I don't know if you'll get this, I'm not sure if you even look at this anymore, but I have a problem.

About a year ago, I was a fairly big guy. I'm about 6'1'' and last year I weighed at my heaviest, 220 pounds. I was sick of being so big, so I decided to change and I lost over 50 pounds or so and now have remained at about 160-165 pounds for quite a while and am trying to gain muscle because my stomach just looks 'soft' I don't seem to have any definition or muscular strength in my arms or stomach and want to gain muscle but I don't want to put on the weight I had back when I was up to 220 pounds. I believe my metabolism has sped up and is now fairly constant because I've recently taken a break from going to the gym and was on vacation for about a month, just eating and site seeing more or less and I have gained a pound. What do I do to bulk up without getting fat now?

  2. The worst thing about being skinny is the fact that some “cool” non-skinny guys pick on you….just because they can. What that does to your self-esteem is what a car does to a bug on the road.

About a year and a half ago I used some supplements over a period of two months and I lost 3 pounds and the supplements guaranteed a 6 poud weight gain per month. That’s when I realised that they are rubbish. Havent used supplements since.

The 3 big lessons that we learn from Vince’s video are:

    1.Bodybuilding mags suck.

    2.Supplements are trash.

    3.Don’t ever talk to a stranger… especially if he’s a pro bodybuilder.

Keep up with the great videos Vince.

  3. The worst thing about being skinny is being disrespected or underestimated because of your size. It totally ruins your self-estim and self-confidence.

  4. Im a 17 year old teenager, 5’8″ and weigh 147 lbs. Last summer I ran to lose those man boobs that no man wants to have, and in the process found out how weak and skinny i was under the 10 pounds of fat i lost. I went down to 135 pounds. I used to weigh 145. Ok so I lost the boobs and was really skinny. My mom was worried and my friend told me about some weight gainer thing. I tried it out. Those things are expensive but i think it worked, cause now i weigh 147. Im still skinny though. THE WORST PART ABOUT BEING SKINNY for me is being weak.=/ I hate it. I’ve had my stuff stolen from me by 3 scrawny gangsters I could have probably taken them…maybe, but I have no confidence in myself to do that. I’m not a fighter. Just the other day my 2 buddies got in a fight with 3 gangsters because the gangsters wanted their phones. Me and my friends are not gangsters. We don’t even look like the type. Their just bullies. They find the weak looking people and pick on them. I really do hate that. After I heard what happened to my friends i was motivated to work out. I don’t like the idea of know that people i care about could be hurt be some stupid idiot that thinks it’s fun to hurt people cause they can. I tried, i’m still trying to get buff. It’s really difficult. Most of my friends are stronger than me, so i don’t know how much help i’d be. Another thing that sucks, is the gym. I started going to a free community gym. All the guys in there are all doing heavier weights than i am, ok look, there’s a freshman at my high school lifting more than me, well now hes going to be a sophmore and I’m going to be a senior, but that’s not important. To me that’s just sad. I try doing my workout, but I look around and I’m the only guy there that’s skinny and weak. It’s sad, and i’m not exaggerating either. I’m not a total weakling but i sure am the weakest there. I have never told any of this to anyone except the part about getting buff. People usually just laugh. But i like that, it encourages me to prove them wrong. I’m sorry if i write a lot, i guess i have a lot to say. I wonder if anyone is even going to read this? Hmmmm. Another thing that sucks about being skinny. Everyone thinks their stronger than you, they underestimate you, and they all want to beat you. I hate this the most. I have a friend who’s name Pablo he used to be fat now he’s lost a lot of weight and says he’s the most determined person in our school at working out. I tell him, “your wrong, if i wanted to, i could be way more determined than you are.” he laughs and says, “no you can’t”, this guy is already stronger than me and says, “alright i bet you i will be stronger than you by the end of this year(2009) ” and i say “but your already stronger than me” he says “excuses” i say “fine.” So i have to beat Pablo now. He’s knows somethings about building muscle but now as much as i’ve learned over these few days of just reading the news letters and watching the videos. but he really thinks he knows everything. I really want to buy your program Vince but right now i don’t have the money. I honestly do believe what your saying is the gods honest truth and i thank you for that. And well look forward to read the up coming news letters, until i have enough for the program its self. Thanks a lot for the words of inspiration and well hope to keep hearing from you. Thanks again, Sincerly Edwin.

  7. When i was young i was pretty much skin and bones. I actually thought my mate was fat, but it was actually because i was compairing him to me, i remember sitting on the bus and i looked at his leg next to mine and I said your so fat bro. And the sad thing is, he came back t me and told me his mum said he is normal, it is you who is skinny. I felt sorry for sayign that to him and i then realised I was skinny. I was called skeleton. And the girls used to just love my mate. I never had no girls interested in me. I remember i bought somethging I can remeber what it was now casue it was so long ago, from a magazine once. Maybe I bought it maybe i didnt, but it lured me into thinking if i did take it id look like htat person. Im talking about when I was not even 10 years old. I had such a bad self image. I ate like crap fish and chips everyweek. And I dont know why now, but Im fighting fat like you wouldnt believe. Im under control now, but my piont is, skinny ruins your self cofidence, and when you have no self confidence, it is those bS mags that attract you into buying some syrup with a little eye droppe making it the most mysterious thing out there, in my teens i I was skiny, I know one boy who was totally inot the mags, he bought everythgin you could and he was covered in zits from head to toe because it and he was ok with that casue the mag said it was just a side effect, he was ugly!! and still took the crap., becasue the mag said. The mags are evil, Id love to have them exposed and really know what is in the magic stuff they sell, maybe thats your next mision Vince, Ill be waiting to hear about it. But what you say is the truth. Theyre a bunch of smart nasty inhumane cheaters. Expose their asses!!

what wrong is this world? this world makes every one to change ,.and guess what?we live in this world we cant change it, even we live here for short time.so we wanner be the perfect person in this world……
in this world most people hate to being skinny, most people laugh at them and make fun of them if they where skinny…….the same way people hate being fat…. if a person is too fat that will change there lives too….. the worst thing is every ones want to be the perfect one… but not everyone is perfect, some may not…so we all wanner show that we can be perfect one …..by showing them even we can change our body shapes our personality and everything……..by showing them we can be the perfect one……………………………………………………………………………………………..
boys actually hate very skinny gurls, the same way they hate very fat gurls. and on the other side gurls hate boys being so skinny and boys being so fat…
i mean most of them does not and this is a truth that everyone’s knows and every one want get the perfect match for them………

  12. I’ve been a skinny dude my whole life. Tried the gyms now and then over the years, but was always became frustrated at a lack of results. I’m 35 now, and I’m in the middle of week 7 of hard training and hard eating. My starting weight was 130 (I’m 5’9), and today I weighed in at 150. Sure the weight training has helped a lot because my muscles have increased dramatically now, but more importantly, it’s the healthy diet. I’m eating around 4000-5000 calories a day and almost 100 grams of protein before I even get to the gym. Being skinny sucks, and I’m so tired of being self concious. I hide my legs at all costs, rarely take my shirt off around strangers, it affects my whole world. All you skinny dudes out there, work your asses off!!! Train hard, it’s going to be so worth it when you finally break out of your shells, I’m looking forward to that the most. I can’t wait to hear my friends and family say “holy shit man”, “nice work!”.

  15. Hi Vince, After all the research I have done on nutrition which as been many years I can not believe these dumb asses are still trying to convince people to buy this crap! I have gone form 190# to a pathetic 132# and now I am at 145# mostly muscle. But that is way to small for me I am 5’7″. The reason I could achieve these results is from The use of all natural ways NO SUPPLEMENTS. I will be starting your bulking program in one week. I took your advice and decided to take off a week from training to regroup although it is quit hard for me yo take a week off. Just to let you know I was using Criag Ballantyne’s program. It is a good program but I do not think it is good for my current situation seeing how it is a different kind of training. I basically am quit impressed with your program as I also do a lot of research on the best trainers around. Looking forward to your program. AS they say great minds think alike

When i lived in Russia i was diagnosed as malnutrition ed and the doctors said that I would not get much bigger and then i was about 25 kilo wich is about 55 lbs i was 10 years old. I did gain weight and now weigh 145 and im 18 but want to bet bigger my cuz is 16 and he is 185 and not fat so im tiered of being the skinny kid or the small kid that iv always have been. and i want to b able to take my shirt of and have definition that would b nice

  17. Hi, Vince

I seem to be just about the same weight and size you were. I’m 6″0 150lbs and I work my ass off 5 days a week in the gym for almost a year now and only gained about 5 lbs in that year. I was stupid and ordered a 1 year subscription to Fitness Rx for men and tried the workouts in those and I got nothing out of them except a pissed off attitude. And after working out for almost a year I still get the comments of how small my shoulders are and how come there not as wide as my dads and how skinny I am in general. We’ll im starting your workouts and I hear from a lot of people including my uncle who was in the marines that the best way to build size was to do workouts that work multiple muscles at once. When he was at boot camp he never did biceps one day the triceps the next. They did shoulder presses, pull-ups, pushups and squats and he was pretty big. But, I thought that the magazines and supplements would help get me bigger and one year later, I wasn’t any different.

  20. Hello Vince!
There are many questions about training and nutrition in this blog. But in my opinion they are not the first thing skinny guys should know. I think skinny guys must change their lifestyle, financial situation, habits as well.
It would be very interesting to know what was the biggest obstracle you had in the beginning of your transformation.
    Thanks for help!

  21. The worst thing about being skinny! I go on vacation with my wife to Mexico or Jamaica and I am embarrassed to take off my shirt! I feel like everyone is laughing inside ( not to mention the ones that say “Man your skinny”). My brother-in-law is a trophy winning power lifter, like its not uncomfortable to be at the pool with him around. I’m 6 ft. tall and weigh 150lbs, long legs and arms with big knobby knees. I’ve dealt with this my whole life (35yrs), and it sucks!!! Vince, I just discovered your information through Jeff Anderson’s e-mails and I have to say you have a more in your face point blank approach to my frustrations. I wish I lived near your gym, because I would gladly pay for your personal training. the online info is good, but I have a hard time training from the computer. With so much info I spend too much time reading and not enough time doing. I hope your tips will finally get me out of this rut!!! Thanks for the forum to vent! Mike

  22. One thing I would like to say to everyone around here trying to gain muscle mass:

More size means more strength so if you experience strength gains you may not see it but you DID gain muscle, if not, you wouldn’t have gotten extra strength, would you?

So you may not SEE significant size gains, but if you are lifting more weight for the same reps then a few weeks before or doing more reps with the same weight.

    You DID make gains !!!

  30. mmm maybe the worst thing about being skinny is the fact that u r the perfect spot for bullies, girls are more attracted to big guys and most of the time skinny guys r weaker than the average people.

Let me tell u something Vince: I’ve have always being skinny and is not a good feeling, I’ve being working out since am 17 to chance that fact and transform my body once and for all, but I never got the results I wanted. Not to mention that i have always wanted to get a perfect six pack 😛 i wasted hundreds of dollars in magazines and supplements and did they helped me? NOT even a bit!
2 days ago i first started a full body workout routine YOU provide on your web page and let me tell u and all your readers that it only took me about 40 minutes to complete the routine and it is being a Looong time since i felt that tired in my life.. i was all sweaty, my heart about to come out from my chest and best of all really satisfied and sure that i did an splendid workout. I’m really motivated and convinced that this time i will get the body of my dreams and is all thx to u! :’-)
thank you Vince you really know how to keep people motivated and really understand and have the intention of helping people!

  31. ii have read your info. and i do agree with u. It is so much harder to build even a body if u are in your 60 which ours truly is going to be 68 on the 26 of march. i bet i have eaten at least 100lbs of eas way. and have tried different supplements to no avile. we older people just dont have what it takes to build a nice looking body however we can get toned up. this does not build a hell of a lot of muscle. I have been at it for over 9 years now and all i got to say for it is i am healther.

know what u are talking about and i have taken different mag. and use there workout plands and consume there hype up supplements and the physical apperance has not change to any great extent. If you have any help for this older man please do. i do repete that i am a older man and a old man.

BUT! when im in the gym i use peoples jokes they make about me going to the gym as motervation. anyway thanks vince!

    Take care!

  34. Hey
i am 19 years of age and i am really skinny… i do have “some” muscle but not enough to have the “bigger” guys look at me and say “i would have a tough time fighting him” Im not looking to get really big or just gain muscle to show off and threaten people with. Im just wanting to get a little bigger so i can be more healthy and feel better about myself. i would just like to have some advice on building muscle and maybe a couple of workout routines to help 🙂

  38. The worst thing about being skinny is the look that you get from bigger guys; kind of like the’re sizing you up and thinking, “I’d beat his skinny ass if it EVER gets that bad…” yeah that shit is the worst.

  46. I used to be skinny and my friends would tease me and make me feel as though at any time, if they wished, they could kick my ass. It was a crappy feeling. Then, when the drinking started in, the arm wrestling begun, and the condescending pat on the head: “It’s okay little buddy, not everyone can be big and strong”. The comments were endless! Not to mention feeling inadequate in a bar when a bigger dude just shoves you aside or takes your place in line.

Well, not anymore! Now I am the big guy, but without the attitude. 😉

  47. Hi Vince,Thanks for this video! In some ways I was like Tom. The truth is, I started working out in the gym back in 2005 up to 2008 but honestly have not really gained the body and muscles I wanted. My trainer at the gym would even do a one on one workout with me at the gym, and he suggested a lot of protein supplements. And since he was my trainer, whatever supplement he tells me to take I take, he even suggested steroids, of which was the only thing I declined from him. I actually spent more than 50,000 pesos (philippine currency) of protein supplements in that 3 years time. He told me to eat and eat a lot of foods, all kinds of foods, to gain weight and later will burn that into muscles, doing so gave me the big tummy. So I told my trainer I wanted to lose my tummy, so he told me what to do, and I did lose weight, but the problem is, I totally lost weight and got skinny with the muscles, but not the type of muscles anyone would have desired. I got the abs I wanted, but not the shoulder, chest, biceps, triceps, etc. I kinda lost my interest in going to the gym starting the year 2009 coz I figured it would do me no good since I’ve been training for 3 years but I didn’t really get the body I wanted. Until I stumbled upon Arnel’s site and yours too. You guys rock, you inspire people to make the move and not give up.I really hope you can help me with what I should do. Man if you were here or I were there I would rather have you train me one on one and pay you the money instead of using it for supplements that never really gave me any good results. I’d really appreciate all your advice and suggestions. Thanks a lot. =)Marc

  49. Hi.I am Gustavo from Argentina.I have gained some weight but I am still skinny.I am almost 6 feet(180cm) nd I weight 161 pounds(73kg).I think most time in my life I haven´t had confidence in mi self because of this.My mom says lucky you!You can eat a lot and you don´t gain weight. That is why I have to eat the triple to get results.
The lack of self confidence is the worst thing about being skinny.I will eat and workout until I get 175 pounds with good abs.I practice taekwondo so I don´t want to be huge because I would lose too much speed.
Common hargainers! We can do it!We deserve the body we want!We can look muscular and we can have confidence in our selves!Enough writing!I am going to it rice and drink the protein I bought today and go to the gym to do some squats, deadlifts and thenbarbell curls!Good luck to all of you!You can do it!

  50. Probably the worst thing about being skinny is that a woman can lift you and carry you around. Role reversal isn’t overly fun.
