How Much Muscle Can You Really Build?
I have a question for you today: “How much muscle do you think you can really build?”
I am about to give you the “muscle geek” answer because you have been lied to by the bodybuilding supplements mafia, magazines and fitness industry as to what is actually possible…
They are making it impossible to build a body that gets better treatment by society.
Understanding the truth about muscle is your first step before dealing with your struggle of looking and feeling average and not living in a body you deserve.
Post your comments below and let me know what you think. Is it 5 lbs of muscle a month? 10 lbs a month? 20 lbs a month? If you can, please share your explanation as to how you arrived at your answer or belief.
Why am I asking you this question? Well I just finished a debate with this guy from my gym on “How much muscle can you really build?”
He didn’t believe that I gained 41 pounds of lean muscle in six months and accused me of taking drugs. In his words, “Whatever dude… there is no way you gained 41 pounds of muscle in six months unless you’re taking something…”
I don`t blame the dude for being skeptical. I would be too.
Reliable bodybuilding and nutrition information isn’t that easy to find. Too often, eager for the quick gain, the inexperienced bodybuilder gets caught in the trap of exaggerated claims from the magazines and supplement companies, but I hope that over the next few days you’ll begin to trust me and see that I have your best interests in mind.
Next time this subject comes up with your friends, you will be able to help them set a realistic goal.
Click PLAY To Learn How Much Muscle YOU Can Really Build
Does that make sense? I trust that lesson cleared up that subject once and for all. If for some reason, you can’t watch the video, I teach the lesson below for more clarity:
How Much Muscle Can YOU Really Build?
Most gym rats expect to build LOTS of muscle really fast.
This is a myth. You can NOT build muscle really FAST. The majority of readers, customers and clients I work with have completely unrealistic expectations when it comes to quick muscle building.
I can’t put an exact number on how much you can gain but most people believe that they can build 20 pounds of muscle in three months…
…it’s amazing how many frustrated customers I get emailing me after their first month of training complaining that they only gained 5 or 10 pounds. I’m thinking to myself, “That’s fantastic, what are you complaining about?!”
There is no doubt you can gain 20 pounds of WEIGHT in 3 months, or even one month, but we are not talking about *weight* – we are talking about *DRY MUSCLE.*
Pure muscle tissue. Not water weight. Not glycogen weight.
Pure muscle weight!
There is not a chance in heaven that you will gain 5 or even 10 pounds of dry muscle in one month or even 3 months – not even close. I hate to be the messenger of this bad news but unless you are using growth enhancing drugs…
… it’s IMPOSSIBLE.
Many of you might be upset or discouraged about the TRUTH of how much you can actually build, but this knowledge will help you to eat and train with a more realistic perspective.
So how much muscle can your body actually manufacture?
Under the BEST possible circumstances (training, diet, supplementation, recovery) the average male body can create between *0.25 and 0.50* pounds of dry muscle tissue per week.
That’s the natural amount that your body chemistry will allow. So you’re looking at 1-2 pounds of dry muscle each month. Not much?
Well consider what your body will look like 12 months from now with an extra 12-24 pounds of muscle?!?!
Starting to see the importance of consistency?
The Skinny Vinny Transformation Story
Let me put my “Skinny Vinny” transformation into perspective if you’re still skeptical like the dude at my gym. From the first year of high school to the last day of University I lived as a long distance runner. I ran from 50-80 miles a week, was never exposed to heavy weight training and was undernourished eating low quality calories.
Now watch the extreme I went to. I went from running 50-80 miles a week to running 0 miles a week. I went from never doing weights to high weight training three times a week. I went from eating around 2,000 low-quality calories to a 4,000 calorie, high-quality, mass plan.
Going from a scrawny long distance runner to hard core bodybuilder is pretty extreme, and it’s going to produce some extreme results, which is exactly what I experienced. I trust that puts any skepticism in a new light. Also, I did not gain 41 pounds of DRY MUSCLE in six months.
The 41 pounds also factored in the increased muscle which was accompanied by increased glycogen and water storage in the muscles. More muscle equals more glycogen.
Most people can maintain up to 40 grams of glycogen per 100g of muscle tissue. So if you’re gaining 10 pounds of new muscle you’ll consequently increase glycogen storage by around four pounds.
So if you gain 10 pounds of muscle, your scale gain will actually be closer to 14 pounds (if you didn’t gain any fat).
And rarely will someone not gain any fat if they are gaining more than three pounds per month.
So, when you set your goals, clarify in your mind that if “20 pounds of muscle” is your *weight gain* goal or your *dry muscle* goal.
And then put realistic time frames on these goals based on the info I just shared.
If you simply focus on keeping your body fat between 10-13% fat while gaining around 5 pounds per month then it is safe to say you are gaining 1-2 pounds of dry muscle a month with 1-2 pounds of glycogen and water, and hopefully no more than a pound of fat.
Train hard and expect success,
Vince DelMonte,

Hey Vince,
Love your stuff, but here’s a Case Study that disproves your argument above and Tim was a major hard gainer and took nothing funny (aka illegal) to pull this off.
Let me know your thoughts after you check it out.

I want to buy your fitness lpan, but right now I have no money to spend and I also have injuries, how long will your low price of $77 be available, I don’t want to build that much muscle size or muscles I am not going to use, I want ton build muscle strength for martial arts use. I also don’t want to go to the gym and use complicated equipment, but I have a bench, barbell, dumbells, wrist and ankle weights and a situp bar. would your fitness plan be ideal for martial arts kind of fitness? I would buy the fitness plan now and hope I get some money in the mean time, but it also means I cant start until my injuries are better, in about 4-6 weeks, so the money back guarentee wouldn’t be much use for me.

Anyone can always build as much muscle as they want for the task at hand in thier life, they can be as physically fit as they need to be, as physically fit as they want to be.
I think if you put on 8 lbs or 8kgs the rest from there is infinite.

This reminds me of a quote I heard about goals, which went something like this: ‘most people who set goals don’t set unachievable goals. They set unachievable timelines. Almost any goal can be reached, given enough time. However most people will not give their goals enough time.

Hi Vince,
Currently, I weigh around 170 lbs, and I’m about 6″4. I have a very hard time putting on weight. I go to the gym about 6 times a week and do two muscle groups every day which basically look like this:
Monday: Pecs/Triceps
Tuesday: Biceps/Back
Wednesday: Shoulders/Legs
Thursday: Rest
Friday: Pecs/Triceps
Saturday: Biceps/Back
Sunday: Shoulders/Legs

I just purchased the program yesterday. I have not begun my workout yet becase I am doing the recommended 1 week off before training. I am about halfway through your book and It seems like you have all your ducks in a row. I am excited to see what results I get. I am 6ft even and 150lbs. I am in the military and constantly M-F workouts but never gain size. After reading your book I realize why. I would be happy with the weight you say I can gain because I still have to run,and I feel gaining the weight too fast could slow me down due to the fact of maving the extra weight…Vince I’m sticking with you on this one and Im excited to report to you my results.

3. If you want to learn and read more tips on getting jacked and muscular, check out my free articles: http://www.vincedelmontefitness.com/articles.html
4. Those are your best bets.
Re Tim Ferris:
I am very familiar with Tim`s 34 lbs in 4 weeks which is 8.5 pounds of muscle a week. The only other time I`ve seen these results is with steroids. Tim`s body does not look like he took steroids (he would be more dried out and far more cut) so it appears that his body had a very powerful response to his regime. I applaud him for inspiring on the future hard bodies out there and respect his hard work. Building muscle is not easy…
As did mine, but nearly as extreme. I had similar results to Tim but it took me 6 months, not 1 month. I hope to meet Tim one day (we have many mutual friends) and will try to interview him for my blog.
His training regime is quite similar to the one that I followed but I did not use slow speed tempos.

Thanks Vince! This was a good no-nonsense fact about muscle building on a natural body. Remember you new guys, don’t workout more than 3 days a week intensly, let your body recover, be sure to stretch really well after your workouts and warm up/stretch before as well. Eat quality foods and get all the major compound lifts in during the week. Also, keep the sets and exercises lower with more intensity. You either workout hard or workout long, you just can’t do both!

G’day Vince,
Dude your like the answer to my prayers. I’ve sat between 60 to 70 kgs for the last 6 years and have struggled to gain more weight or muscle for a majority of that. I’m about 6ft 2 and am constantly takin for an aneorexic. I only stumbled across ur website two nights ago and i’m looking forward to getting started on ur program. I guess my biggest issue is my diet. yeah i eat the wrong stuff but no doubt you have a dietary plan that I could follow. I would like to gain 35-40 lbs of pure muscle in about 5-6 months. After watching a few of your videos I believe that you are the man that is going to get me to my desired weight and looking awesome. Thanx for the emails and i hope to get sarted really soon. Cheer for Australia bro
February 6, 2009
hmmm I am not a gullible person, but I’d believe anything you’d say. 5 pounds of muscle sounds resonable.
February 7, 2009
i think that video is realistic and i hope your training program can help me,Thanks for the emails and i hope to get sarted really soon. and i hope that i get some good meal plans!

Well, i don’t know how much pound of muscle everyone could gain, but for me, it’s pretty slow. If I gain 2 pound of muscle in 2 or 3 month, it’s a succes for me.
I’m 17 years old, 5″10, 130 pound. Now I’m trying the 6 month training of Vince. It’s a great training for the one who loves to collapse.
February 13, 2009
well i think i can gain to about 3 or 4 pound, thing is im skinny but have a good body shape just usually hard for me to gain, i dont even know what to do for eating habits but usually when i work out i take proteins while working out.

Hi Vince,
Im tyring to build up my upper body (6 packs)but my stomach still coming out.
Can you tell me what kind of training should i follow to overcome these?
Thank you.
February 15, 2009
Hey Vince,
I am a 34 year old man and have started going to the gym 3-4 days a week and am around 190 pounds. I have done ALOT of research and have come across your website and yes i am a little hesitant on buying another routine package! i agree and understand alot of what you have to say, but what seperates you from the rest? (p90x for example).
My goal is to be around 205-210 with a good number of body fat percentage. I am unsure of the routine, how often to go and the exact layout of the routine and how often to do it?
This is my question to you and hope the reponse is not an automated response or a general response because this will be the deciding factor in my purchase of your program.
Thank you
Adam

February 22, 2009
Hey Vince
Ox here. Just like you I was sick of my peers who continue to call I skinny. I’m 31 years old and for some reason my metabolism ( that and my inability to commit to a work out meal plan) has stopped my growth.
My question is, without supplements; what foods can I buy that will allow my muscles to grow?
February 23, 2009
Im a 6′ 2″ 20 year old college grad. I played every sport in highschool, and a year of semi-pro football. ive noticed how kids go from being healthy in HS to gaining the “freshmen 15″ in college due to lack of exercise. now my sophomore year i was around 190lbs. I was in the weight room a lot but was still a little “thick” over the summer i lost 27lbs working construction. 2 months into my junior year i had put back on 22lbs, of leaner weight. right now im around 182lbs only on protein and no shotgun. im eating better and getting good sleep. i bench a solid 305 and MP 185 but my quesiton is how can i hit a solid 205 in a realistic timeline, with staying lean?
February 25, 2009
Hey vince
im 17 years old, weigh 5-6 stone and im 5-8 ft tall, used to work put with a passion in the gym as i did breakdancing a while back last yr and needed to get fit to pull off difficult moves aka being able to hold myself off the ground with my hands. Fact is im quite fit and full of energy for my age but i don’t look it (in otherwords skinny) , i wanna build a six pack and feel great about myself in appearance so i look more obvious as a breakdancer but don’t know how to or what plan of action/workout to do, i can’t go to the gym any more as it is too expensive and i don’t have any weights, all i can do is chin ups, push ups and sit ups as well as running. plus i’ve got my birthday coming up on the 29th may and wanna look great, i need HELP FAST, can u help me?
February 25, 2009
i need help alot because my body is not skinny like i said but lean, i mean my upper arm muscles are not that big but just my body overall in general at the moment is lean and i want to develop them so they look half as good as urs at least? plz help me give me advise asap….
February 26, 2009
Before I go any further, I would like to say that I am very greatful for the tips and advise I have received from you. First and foremost I don’t subscribe since I can use only some time to exercising as I work full time, I’m 58 years of age and I try my best to keep fit and I try to build muscle as I can at my home with whatever resources I have available, etc. bench press, pushups, dumbel/barbell curls using what ever free advise I can get. I am however thankful for all the advise and tips that I get. Thanks once again and all the best.
February 26, 2009

March 5, 2009
Hey Vince -
I’m a sophomore in high school, my two main sports being cross country and wrestling. I’ve always been pretty lanky, never had body fat over 8%, I have a monster appetite. I’m currently 6 foot 143lbs and have always wanted to be a bigger/stronger person, but the most i’ve ever gained from a serious lifting program in the past was 3lbs in 4 months; the majority of which was probably from me growing. I’ve stopped growing now for the most part, and no matter what I do it seems as if I cannot gain significant muscle mass. As if i hadn’t already had enough motivation, my wrestling coach has told me that i need to gain a good 15-18lbs of muscle by next season. First of all, is it even possible for me to gain that much, and secondly, how?? If you could give me some advice, that would be wonderful.
March 6, 2009
would like to know if you are planning to come down under?
March 9, 2009
hey Vince!
am a 23 year old guy who has been working out since am 17, from going to the gym then giving up, couple months later come back again, then quit, workout at home and all that undisipline had led me to have a athletic slim body but not muscular! and as u can imagine that is what am looking 4… the reason i have quited so many times then comeback, is because of the poor results i get no matter waht i do or what i take, so am writting this in hope of some answers.
oh and about the question… i think about 5 pounds of muscle <:-/
March 10, 2009
Hey everyone!
this is a tough question…..
I’d say on average with hard work, consistency and proper nutrition
3-5 lbs a month is a good gain of muscle its always possible to gain a bit more depending if your diet is really good and clean and if your consistent with your workout
but the main thing is that your consistent with your diet and workout and you’ll reach your goal in time just have to be patient with it and give it alot of time no need to get impatient
March 11, 2009
hi just to tell you that i seem everytime i go to watch a video it never works.
cheers

March 12, 2009
First of all expectations of how much muscle a person can gain is subject to a number of different factors. A complete beginner, as many people who buy Vince’s products are, may not be able to coordinate and develop sufficient tension in their muscles to stimulate muscle growth. As a trainer myself, I have two clients who bought Vince’s products under the guise that they would be able to build at least a few pounds of muscle a month. However, after working with them for 12 weeks it was clear that they weren’t going to be building much muscle from the get go.
They both had a lot of strength asymmetries, and it took nearly 12 weeks just to get them to be able to do a decent full depth body-weight squat. Short and tight hip flexors, hamstrings that pull all the time, with issues like this, the concept of training hard enough to gain muscle is out the window. I wouldn’t hesitate to say that many trainees who buy Vince’s (or anyone’s cookie cutter programs) may require up to 12 weeks of neuromuscular adaptation, strength asymmetry work, range of motion work and soft-tissue work before they can really start to get in to the weights.
I say this after thoroughly reviewing all the literature in Vince’s product.
Now… the second thing is for those out there who don’t have any problems pushing themselves hard already, for those who know and can perform the basic exercises with good technique, most of you are already training hard, and therefore already have good full muscle glycogen levels. So your muscles are already full. So for those of you who start Vince’s programs, if the program you are on currently is really crappy, and Vince’s programs turn out to be way better, then, as Vince said in the video, you could be seeing a solid 1-2 lb increase in muscle per month.
Finally, in response to Vince’s claim of building 41 lean pounds of muscle in 6 months. Look, the scale and bodyfat calipers don’t lie. I’m quite certain at the beginning of those 6 months, he gained 41 lbs on the scale, and his body fat did not go up, or some combination to give him 41 lbs of lean weight gain.
But the truth is, at the start of those 6 months, he couldn’t have been already training hard and consistently for quite a while.
What often happens with these incredible before and after stories, is one of two things. Either the person has very good genetics for balanced muscle strength, so that immediately as they start training their bodies respond well. This is usually not the case. Most people require at least a couple months of breaking in their nervous system so that it understands how to coordinate the recruitment patterns sufficiently to produce enough muscle tension in the targeted muscles to produce growth. The other thing is that the person has trained in the past, already learned the exercise technique, already built some muscle, built a good level of glycogen in their muscles, and then for some reason stopped training for a number of months, during which they lose all the glycogen, and drop some of the muscle they had gained. When they resume training (let’s say at the beginning of a 6 month period) they have “muscle memory”, which allows them to rebuild the lost muscle much more quickly, and their bodies are primed to grow more quickly at this time.
In the end, let’s face it. The problem with online programs such as Vince’s is that unless you have the right initial starting point to pound away at the weights, you’re not going to grow 41 lbs of muscle in 6 months. In one way or another Vince had it, and buddy, congrats to you for that. But marketing a cookie cutter program (that’s what I call it when the program comes with those little animated exercise demos, and the program is generated with a computer), with your outstanding personal results in my opinion is misleading.
It’s kind of like this… imagine in a reputable scientific study done at some University, they’re testing the results of eating a vegan diet on muscle building. The results of the study show that only a small percentage of the people who are vegan will build as much lean muscle as those on a mixed diet, however one particular vegan (who used to eat a mixed diet and had trained a lot in the past, and had only recently switched to being a vegan) gained more muscle than anyone else in the study, goes and sets up a website claiming that his diet (which he’s now selling) is scientifically proven to help you gain more muscle than a mixed diet.
You see my point? The data from the study is true, but the representation of it in the sales pitch is misleading.
Anyway… I could go on.
In an online marketing world where everyone is promising crazy next to impossible results, I guess if yours don’t seem even more wild, then maybe you won’t make it.
Buyer beware…
Shane
p.s. 7 years ago after I had my knees scoped, when I was able to start lifting again, I gained about 30 pounds in three months. But… after my knee surgery, I lost about 20 lbs, I didn’t eat much, and didn’t move much for three whole months. If I ever get a website up selling my services, I certainly won’t be claiming that I gained 30 lbs of lean muscle (which is technically true) in 3 months on the program that I sell.

hey vince , been reading alot of your stuff…has insired me to get back on track…like you i have gone through a phase of partying and drinking etc …not happy with my self haha , anyway in 07′ early jan i was pretty scrawny at a mere 69 kg but ripped as hell, then decided to begin body building you’ll probably hate this but i tried a few suppliments such as N.O / glutamine / and simple protein powder … but i found the N.O was a waste of money just felt like expencive coffee really, but the protein powder and the glutamine had me gaining fast,
i went from 69 kilos early jan 07 – 86 kilos by mid april but still kept my six pack etc not ure of expact body fat increase but i did gain a little fat …..
i recently tried gaining without the suppliments but on a ‘muscle buidling diet’ and my results were far slower….so i was wondering which suppliments might you reccomend using, and do u really believe that they are all useless and a waste of money?? not trying to start an arguement just want your expert opinion … thanks

hi coach,
i been reading yr instruction and find it very good because i know more logic to build muscles……i now age14 and really wish to have each month to gain 6-7lbs. but my greatest problem is i dont have really enough time to spent for my gym and not sure one week must go how many times and how long must spent…
what kind of food must i eat? and what should i be using gym equipment as my for my age in suitability? so i abit doubt of this question and hope u would give me more personal tips through hotmail. by the way, thanks for giving me a chance to realise my dream….haha my dream is to be muscular man.
March 20, 2009

Hey…vince…thanks a lot for that vegan meal plan……
I want to ask you something……testosterone is a very important hormone for a man’s entire body growth right????
I am jus 17 years old…can u suggest a few techniques to boost my testosterone levels????
There is one more thing that i wanted to ask….you have prescribed soy products in my diet…and i hav heard tat use of soy will favour estrogen(female hormone) secretion….so wouldn’t that affect my testosterone levels??soy has become controversial in the bodybuilding world….right????

Hello Vince,
you say you help skinny guys with their training, but I’m
not skinny, I am 16 years old, I have 20% bodyfat and I want to drain bodyfat until I have bodyfat < 10% can I still use your tips? Also, what are the best tips you can give me to lose bodyfat?
Thanks,

I’ve been working out for 2 months now. I cycle between chest, sholders, and arms (3 days) and run 3 miles every day. I’ve turned from a fat lazy looking slob with a beer belly to a buff guy that almost has a complete six pack, a huge noticable chest, and an aggresive looking demeaner in that amount of time. I gain about 4Oz of muscle every 15 days. I only take 1 serving of proteen, a multi-vitimin, and a flaxseed oil supliment after my work outs. I’m I training too hard or can I step it up?
April 4, 2009
How much muscle do you think you can really build?”
I like to build muscle about 5-6 pound in a month but I am not sure can be? becase I am going gym for last 4-5 year but when go regular my weight gain 5 lbs but when there is some gap I am losing increased my weight . at present my weight is 64Kg and height is 5′9”..
Please let me know workout details to increase muscle ’s weight …
April 4, 2009
That crap the magazines give you about the average person being able to gain only around 7 lbs of muscle a year is totaly false. I started working out a year and a half ago, and I was 150 lbs. I tried so hard to gain mass and couldn’t, until I started eating like a horse. After that I threw on 35 lbs. of muscle in about 7-8 months.
April 4, 2009
i think probably about 10 lbs of uscle a month
April 6, 2009
Hi Vince,
it’s me Paul, regarding your question this morning how much muscle you can build? to be honest with I have not started yet with trg progme rec’d but my best bet would be 5pound in a month! I guess it really depends on how an individual puts his or her effort in gaining the required results!
anyway I am comfortable starting at home but I don’t have the required equipments to assist me so what would be you best advise on this!
Cheers
Paul

Hello, i’m 17 years old and weigh at precisely 201 pounds and suddenly i haven’t been putting any muscle in the past 7 months. Could you send me any information on anything to increase the mass.
Yours faithfully.
April 8, 2009
i dont even think i can build one pound of mouscle in three months i need your program but i cant pay that much but can i ask you how long should a workout be and what should one do in their workout
April 8, 2009
I think I could build up to 5 lb of muscle in a month
April 11, 2009
I think it’s possible to gain around 5 lbs of muscle per month.
I’ve tried the Bill Star program last year and it worked fantastic for building up my strenght. The last 8 weeks I have been on the ‘Rippetoe’ program, this program is almost divine to me because people started asking me if I was getting bigger and if I was going to the gym or not and so on…
I got these programs from a strongman competitor and as I said, they work great.
The problem with these programs is that if you keep on them and just keep eating like a manic, you might be able to deadlift a car, but you wont look like a fitness/bodybuilder model
(I think)
You seem to use a lot compound excercices
Compound excercise + nutrition plan = win (in my eyes)
Looking forward to your book
April 12, 2009
It seems like everyone is adopting this idea of muscle confusion, or not giving muscles the same routine. I am willing to try this, but my question is, how often should I change up the exercise. Do you ever do the same workout twice in one week, or is it always something different?
April 13, 2009
I’m really intrigued with this program. I was exactly 167 lbs on Oct of 08, until i got myself a bowflex and I’m now 196 lbs…..but, I did gain more fat cells than I would of wanted, so I would really like to find out about the calorie counter program that’s included with this program. I think that it would be SO worth it
April 14, 2009

Hey Vince.I am 19 years old and I go to the gym for the last 6 months.I am 1,92 cm tall and my weight is 86kg.I want to take 6 kilos in muscles and althought the difference in my body was huge in these months I couldn’t take weight even if I ate to much so the last month I started to take proteins with carbonhydrates to increase my weight.I know that you are against on all of these powders but they helped.I think that the muscle weight that someone can gain in a month is about 2kilos
April 26, 2009
I believe you can gain a significant amount of muscle when you are first beginning to workout , but after awhile your body adjusts and you really have to change your workout so often to see maximum results!!!!!!!!!!

I am a 17 year old teenager from england and I play basketball and football. In septiember I will be going to college for two years. Since I am about to leave school I want to reinvent myself as a good looking boy and get popular with the girls by getting a six pack. Also I want to gain muscle for sport as I am tired of being pushed around in BAsketball and Football. Can u help me vince?

By the way I wanted to add that I’m 5′10 and I weigh 147 pounds. Can you advise me on the best workout routine and diet to follow please?
May 14, 2009
i see that most of your advise is about skinny people gaingin muscles is there a wa to cut down on the amount of fat on my body before i start gaining muscle or even better gain muscle while losing fat. my main problem is that im not motivated enough to do it i keep telling myself that i will do push ups and situps each night but i never manage to do it and every time i think of it im disappointed in my self but still cant get myself to do it. is ther any advice you could give me????
May 15, 2009
Hey Vince & Everyone,
You all should be proud of yourselves, the fact that you are reading and writing here is a great step in following through with your goals. I’m 35 and have always wanted to put on some size, but my insecurities always got in the way. I tried the gym a few times here and there, but when I didn’t see immediate results, I just gave up. I started working out solidly about 7 weeks ago, my starting weight was 130lbs. Today I hit my first goal, 150lbs. I’m thrilled with my results and can’t wait to see what the next 7 weeks will bring me. I’ve set my next goal at 170, that may take a bit longer than 7 weeks, we’ll see. If I can give some advice to all of you hard gainers out there, EAT and repeat. That is the one thing I did wrong over the years of trying to gain weight. Get a meal plan and stick to it. Thanks for the inspiration Vince!
May 21, 2009
Hello there, Im 16 years old and i weigh 170 pounds. I play football and I go to the gym five times a week. I have been going to the gym for at least 3 consecutive months, and really, I haven’t been seeing any results. I really, desperately need your help because I need to build massive amounts of muscles in less than 6 months. Well, I’m currently reading your book as a start, and it’s really great. It basically answered almost every single doubts that I had in working out. I really believe that this program is going to get me bigger, and I hope you can help me follow through. Thanks a lot Vince.

I think it depends on how your body can use what you put in to it, your metabolic rate and how you burn or use the food you eat I guess.
I’m now 43 years of age, in my younger days from 17 to around about 23 I used to work out at least 4 to 5 times a week, I could easily pack on the muscle then, I didnt bother with suppliments as they were too expensive, as they are today of course, just a good diet helped.
Now as I have only just restarted to train again, I know my body will probably not be able to regenerate its self as easily as when I was younger, so for the time being I am working off the fat I have accumilated and eating correctly so I do not lose muscle and I cant wait to try and build again just to see how my body reacts at 43.
So far so good in the fat lose, I still have more to go but its working. I have lost 42lb comfortably in the last 5 months and still losing, yet seem to have kept my muscle tone, so hopefully I shall be able to build ok!
But I know guys past and present who have worked hard yet have seen little gain in size but have become stronger and in some cases could lift a hell of a lot of iron for their size!
June 1, 2009
I would like to gain 5 pounds of muscle each month.

So I know about how fast the body can manufacture muscle, but how quickly does it break it down? I ask because I recently lost weight in my first year of university, even though I still hit the gym frequently. The work stress got to me, and I ended up missing meals, or not eating the food school offered because it was pure junk. I am trying to regain what I lost, and am just wondering how much muscle loss would occur, how much fat loss, etc., when in a calorie deficit?
