if you’ve ever read my Your Six Pack Quest e-book, you know I’m a big believer in detoxing your body and if you think your body is due for a detox or cleanse then this is a very important for you to read.
Specifically, the world famous lemonade diet by the late Stanley Burroughs. In my opinion, all other cleanses are bogus and noneffective and I believe the lemonade diet has earned it’s name, “The Master Cleanse” rightfully so. The current version was published in 1976 and continues to be popular to this day. You can probably find a copy of the 50 page booklet by doing a google search but I would personally recommend reviewing this site before you make your final decision

Weight loss WILL occur, but do not equate this with a FAT LOSS PROGRAM. Last year I lost almost 15 pounds in 10 days and this year I lost 8 pounds in 3 days. I took pictures each day and looked identical on day 1 and 2 and seemed to lose some mass on only the 3rd day. The majority of weight I lost was water and glycogen and a bit of fat (I was actually very lean and tight at the end of the 3 days) and I’m sure I lost a bit of muscle but you gain it almost immediately upon returning to the gym.
Again, do not use this as a FAT LOSS DIET. This is not what it is intended for and you will gain back about half of the weight you lose, but it will be in the form of water and glycogen.
Let me warn you that The Master Cleanse is NOT for the weak of body or mind. It is VERY difficult to follow (the first day is the hardest) and it’s an amazing experience to see how addicted you are to food.
The longer you have been alive and the longer you have exposed yourself to toxins in the air, chemicals in our food, abuse of alcohol, stress etc, the more toxicity in your body and the more qualified you are for a cleanse.
And most importantly, it will make combating fat more difficult, especially the last 10 pounds.
I didn’t experience any severe side effects while on the cleanse but my diet is pretty clean 80-90% of the time and I am fairly careful about what I put in my body. The best benefit for me is my sleep quality while on the cleanse. I woke up 1-2 hours earlier each morning because my body was not busy digesting food so my energy levels, surprisingly, we’re very high for the entire 3 days – I was even tempted to do some brisk walking but exercise should be avoided.
Also, I don’t experience any gas (sorry) for weeks after I am finished the cleanse and when I go back into the gym to train, my body makes very quick gains and I notice my recovery time between workouts to be quicker (probably because my body is absorbing a higher percentage of nutrients).
Consider a cleanse like resetting or refreshing your body back to “normal.” Mentally, craving for bad food choices are gone for awhile and you’ll be extremely motivated to maintain the “cleanliness” inside your body.
Here are some of the benefits you’ll experience:
Personally for me, here’s how I benefited:
Here’s what I lived on for the 7 days last year and 3 days this year:
*Grade B Organic Maple Syrup
*Lemons
*Organic cayenne pepper
*Filtered water
This forms your “lemonade” and you can drink as much of this as you wish all day and all night long.
In the morning you flush your body out by shot gunning a glass of sea salt mixed with water (and then spend about 45 minutes in the washroom which is the worst part). In the evening you drink a laxative tea to avoid constipation because of the lack of fiber.
I would recommend you do The Master Cleanse at least 1 or 2x a year, preferably with the change of seasons. In the end, you’ll read lots of research on how you don’t need to cleanse your body if you get enough fiber, fruits and vegetables (which I doubt you do) and that there is no science that supports “cleansing” your body but no scientific study can dispute your own experience, which I believe is the true test.
I personally feel completely clean and brand new and know of no better way of detoxing my body other than The Master Cleanse 1-2x a year. Forget about all the super expensive pill form detox plans and imitation detox plans. The Master Cleanse is the real deal that has stood the test of time.

I’ve also had good experiences with the Master Cleanse, but I have to disagree with you on one point – for me, it WAS very easy! I had tried other fasting plans, and could not get through a full two days. I have done the Master Cleanse three times for ten days each. Yes, the first couple days are the hardest, but TOTALLY doable.
One benefit I’ve found is that I really learn when I eat for hunger and when I eat out of boredom or for any other emotional reason. On the Cleanse, I would have the lemonade when I felt actual hunger and water or mint tea if I wanted to eat for any other reason. It was really an eye-opener, and the new habits are easily continued after returning to normal eating.
Come to think of it, it’s been probably a year and a half since the last time I did the Cleanse, so thanks for the reminder – I should think about doing it again soon!

Vince,
The Master Cleanse is terrific. I went on it after reading it in your ebook. I feel terrific. I lost about a pound a day. Thanks for telling everyone it’s not a diet.
BUT, your recommendation of Mastercleanseplan.com is bogus. The sales letter goes on to offer ways to cheat, indicates that Stanley Burroughs leaves out vital information about what to do about headaches, etc in his 50+ page book (which by the way only cost $6.50 (US), and then goes on to offer a whole lot of things that aren’t necessary. The Master Cleanse is pure and simple, The Mastercleanseplan sales letter you sendt us to is crap. Tell your folks to simply buy the book and do a little internet search, and if they still want a little more information, buy Peter Glickman’s book, “Lose Weight, Have More Energy, Be Happier, in 10 days.” Find another way to get the jv kickback. You lose credibility offering that sales letter.

Do you see your sleep time increase or return to what it was before the cleanse after a certain period of time?

I also “like” the Mastercleanser very much and agree with Vince it is really the only one that really works. It is quite simple, but not easy. The first few days can be very hard. If you deciede to do it make sure you read up on it and do all the steps, but most importantly be sure you are mentally ready, as sometimes there is a great deal of suffering, espiecially in the first few days. I do the MC about 3 times a year and each time it is differnet in terms of challenges.
Ironically I am on it right now I have lost 10 lbs in 9 days, am sleeping great and have lots of energy. I am going to try for at least 15 days, that will tie my longest cleanse.

LOL, the doctor’s said it was unrelated but on the forth day of the lemonaide diet I had appendicitis!!!!!!!!!!! Up until that time I had lost about 8 pounds in 3 days in spite of drinking tons of water 1 gallon plus each day… I did feel GREAT until the appendix… Also in 2 weeks I was down 20 pounds… REALLY dehydrated at that point. After I re-hydrated I was back up about 10 pounds so overall I am down 12 pounds from a month ago… started workouts 2 weeks after surgery ,including ABS ( I am using your AB Cutting workouts after 9 months on insane muscle building.) … feeling great and, despite my families objections plan on doing a 3-7 day cleanse early December… Keep up the good work,,, I REALLY should have taken before pictures earlier this year!!!! I am 48 years old and fat but am down 30 pounds and 8% body fat for the year!!!!!!!!Feeling best I have in years. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!Keep up the good work…..

Let me know can we eat anything during the day when we are in the programme.
January 16, 2009
I’m a bit puzzled about the combo of ‘food’ intake… Water, lemon juice an cayenne pepper all seem very fine, but MAPLE SYRUP? I’m not American, so I haven’t tried it. But if I understand correctly it’s just like any other syrup -a whole bunch of (processed) sugar. So how come this has a place in the program? If there’s anything bad, it must be sugar, right?
It really seems strange to me.

should we expect to take a ten-day ‘break’ from everything (including exercise) during this lemonade detox? or, what is realistic and i am guessing these questions will be answered in your book, correct. will i be able to work, play, etc…. as normal during the 10-day or what is realistic?
i am reasonably in shape, i do exercise regularly at the ymca, i just ran across your site and joined up and this is such a large amount of information to digest that i guess i am a bit tentative, but when i get all my questions answered, i assure you i will be one of your $1,000.00 winners and more….
i’m ready to get started and waiting on an answer…

Hi Lee,
To answer your question, no, you don’t have to take a break from everyday normal activities. I have done this cleanse and have been perfectly fine going to work, doing daily chores, running errands, etc.. I wouldn’t recommend going to the gym & doing a heated work out, but light to moderate exercise is fine. If you want to learn more, check out: thelemonadesite.com.

I’ve done this diet, along with Atkins and SlimFast & various other diets, and this one by far is the best! I get the results I want and feel great during and after the lemonade diet with none of post-weight issues!

I also developed appendicitis, but right after doing the lemonaid cleanse. I elected not to get surgery & I've had it for about 2 years since.

Maple Syrup is natural refined tree sap. It has no additives, preservatives and is rich in minerals and nutrients and provides the carbs you need to function. DO NOT substitute with anything else or you will be defeating the purpose. The lemons are a natural cleanser/degreaser and are full of vitamins. These 2 ingredients supply your minimal daily needs as a human. The cayenne pepper breaks down all your mucus membranes loosens them enough so that your body can process the toxins and chemicals.
