Peter Luckraft: Man Of No Nonsense

By

Vince Del Monte, WBFF Pro Fitness Model, Certified Fitness Trainer
and Nutritionist and author of No Nonsense Muscle
Building.

My favorite part about the muscle magazines is the “members feedback,” What you have to say,” “success stories,” and “story of the month” sections.

I love seeing the pictures of every day folk, like you and I, who have taken action and proved that they are for real.

Today I want to feature Peter Luckraft who was a winner of my 3rd Transformation Challenge and who was willing to answer some questions about his success.

I plan on doing this on a regular basis so keep an eye out on your email Inbox for when I ask you to be featured.

Peter’s before and after pics are at the top (he cropped out the background so they look better FYI)

————————————————–

Vince: What was your fitness level and physique like before using any of my programs?

Peter: I would say mediocre to poor. Before I began implementing your six pack program, I did go to the gym, but like most of the people there, I really didn’t know what I was doing. It was the same old routine with no real results.

Vince: What has been your primary fitness goal and what is your primary motivation towards your training?

Peter: My fitness goal was to get my body fat level into the single digits. I feel that 10% BF is a healthy place to live. My primary motivation is my age and family.

I am 32 years old, and have a wife and 3 daughters who look up to me. I will be the best role model I can for them, and you and I both know Vince, that it feels dam good to be in shape.

Vince: What is your secret to staying motivated?

Peter: Good question, because I have seen so many people lose weight, only to put it right back on, and end up either where they started, or worse! If you have ever watched the first episode of “The Biggest Loser”, then you will know what keeps me motivated. Like anyone else who is out of shape, I struggled like heck to shed the fat and get into great shape, and there is no way I want to do that again, especially now that I have all of the tools required to keep in shape. I quote you Vince, “It’s much easier to keep a six pack than it is to get one”.

Vince: How do you handle your training and nutrition schedule around your company and having a wife and 3 daughters?

Peter: Another great question. Here’s how I see it, if getting in shape is important to you, you make it a priority. Personally, I get up at about 5:00 to 5:30 to get to the gym, usually about 4 days a week. I will sometimes use the old treadmill in the basement for evening intervals on the off days (time I would likely be spending in front of the tube). It leaves me so much available time to be with my wife and daughters.

Regarding nutrition, For the first 4 meals / snacks, I eat alone, so I can eat as healthy as I wish. In the evening, I always try to prepare a great dinner for my family, and frankly, I do allow myslef to indulge a bit at times, but I always make sure that the majority of the time, I am eating good whole foods.

Vince: What is your biggest obstacle with achieving your fitness goals and how have you overcome it?

Peter: Nutrition nutrition nutrition!!! I am a big eater, and I do tend to indulge in a few beers or mixed drinks sometimes more often than I know I should. I have overcome it by being truly committed to my goals, as your programs have taught me how to do so well. I am not going to lie, in my journey, I did go out occasionally, I did order a big prime rib with mashed potatoes once or twice, but I seriously felt committed to my goals.

Like I said, if it is truly important to you, you WILL make it happen. I have heard so many people say, “oh I can’t live that way”. No, it is that you won’t live that way, and that says to me that becoming lean and fit is not important enough to you.

In a nutshell, I overcame this obstacle by taking a stand against myself, and like Eddie Murphy said in the Nutty Professor, saying to myself, “YES I CAN” 🙂

Vince: Share your latest results this past 3 weeks getting ready for your cruise?

Peter: 3 weeks prior to the cruise, I incorporated Joel Marion’s Program, “Cheat Your Way Thin” into my routine. Using this coupled with your workout and motivational program gave me great results, and this was through two of the worst flus I have ever had! The results were I went from 186 lbs to 179 lbs, dropping my bodyfat by 2%. May not sound like much, but it brought me to the lowest BF level I have ever been, sub 8%. Also, as many of you know, the last few pounds are the toughest to lose!

Vince: What has been the most valuable technique you’ve used in building your body to this point in your life?

Peter: Supersets and Giant sets at the gym, as you outline in your programs. Physically, I believe that I learned how to get the most out of a workout when I am at the gym. Frankly, sometimes I am at the gym for 45 minutes, and I literally have to stop because I have worked so hard. I would say this made the biggest difference in my results.

Vince: Your biggest physique goal for 2010?

I would like to live the entire year around 10% BF, and I would really like to pack on some lean muscle. Through my 6-pack quest, I learned that there was a lot more fat on my body than I knew about, and overall, I have gone from a max of nearly 235 lbs down to 180. I would like to get myself to 190 lbs (in the single digits for bodyfat). My plan is to begin by using the 29 week intermediate No Nonsense muscle building program, eating lots of whole foods, and then to lean down over a 12 week period, and see where I am at.

Thanks for the interview Vince, I have truly changed my life thanks to your guidance and support. Your programs are motivating, inspiring, and extremely informative and complete, and I hope that my results have inspired someone else to take a stand and change their life, it is truly the best experience you could ever go through!

END OF INTERVIEW

Wasn’t that great? Heck, I was very impressed to Peters 5-530am wake up times and his outlook on, “If you’re serious than you’ll make time…”
So true!

I asked Peter if he would pop into the blog and answer your questions below so feel free to shoot him some specific questions and don’t forget to give him a huge congratulations.

Also mention what stood out to you in his interview. I’m sure he would appreciate that.

If you want to be featured then let me know and send me your pictures and I’ll send you a new batch of questions to answer.

Thanks
Vince

  6. Hey Peter, just wanted to say you look freakin’ awesome!! I get so pumped reading stories like yours..I have the flu and I want to run over to the gym after reading your interview. You are so right..if you want something bad enough you do whatever it takes to get it!

I do have a question. Did you follow Vince’s menu plans? It sounds like you kinda did your own…
I love working out, intervals, jogging, etc. but I struggle so much with nutrition and diet…did you count calories/protein or just eat moderately and watch your nutrient timing?

Thanks for your imput! I hope you submit your results after doing the NNMB!

  8. You look great and are doing a great job. You should be proud. Like Ray from NY I would ask how long the transformation took. You talk about the 29 week program you are starting on so I doubt that this has been a 12 week transformation. I am also 57 and have been working at this for about 6 months. I needed to gain weight so I bumped up my weight from 135 to about 160 while working out so I didn’t gain any extras and …. well.

Anyway, good job and keep up the good work.

  9. What can I say, thank you all so much for the kind words. This has truly been such a great experience for me, and I sincerely hope that many more will have the opportunity to experience it.

Maggy, awesome! Doesn’t it feel so great to work out in the morning? It puts a smile on my face for the rest of my day!!

Mike, a thousand thanks to you. It was great to meet you on the cruise, and thanks for a great book, and continual great advice in your ezine, I read every one!!! Lets get carried away again some time!! 🙂 Seriously though, what a great mentor, your advice and knowledge is truly priceless.

Mads, wow, what a great congrats, this one gave me the chills! Thank you so much for your kind words! I don’t look like skinny Vinny do I??? haha, just kidding Vince buddy!!

Ray,.. the pictures are about 1 1/2 years apart. The first 25 lbs took place over about 6 months, and quite frankly were easy to lose. Next, I lost about 22 lbs in Vince’s 12-week transformation contest. Then I coasted for a while, and got myself back to the 190 range. For the cruise, I got it down to about 179-180, the last 6-7 lbs came off in the 3 weeks prior to the cruise. Thanks for the congrats!

Thanks Bjorn, and Vince, thans again buddy. For those of you reading this blog, you obviously care about your health and fitness, and my hat’s off to you for that. Listen to this guy if you are looking for some good, honest advice and awesome programs to get your but into shape, trust me, it works!! 🙂

  10. Great job, Peter!!

I’ve been getting up at 5:30 too, because I have class early most days and ASU’s gym is SO crowded if you don’t get there early! Thanks so much for the story! I’ve been trying to get down to 10% too; I’m at about 200lbs-18% bf right now. I came down from 280lbs-30+% bf thanks to Vince and Craig Ballantyne!

My biggest problem is when I go out, because most of my friends wanna go out to eat 4-5 times a week, and I can’t be doing that if I’m gonna stick to my goals…what did you do when you went out? Lately, I’ve been eating at home before, then politely refusing when we’re at the restaurant but they don’t like when I’m not eating with them…haha

    Thanks again for the story!

  14. Nice going Peter! Yes, dedication is the key and making the time whenever you have it sometimes might not be ideal, but you have to workout when you have the time slot to do it. You are an inspiration to guys who might be “on the fence” about getting back into shape. 😉

  15. Peter,

You look great…and from a female’s perspective downright HOT!!! I am inspired by your dedication and motivation. You get it. I wish more people would. I have you beat on the wake up times as I am at the gym by 3:30 a.m. on gym days…typically 3 and 4 days a week. I do sleep in a little if I’m working out at home. Unfortunately though it does break the rules of getting plenty of sleep. But this isn’t a competition I know. We are just committed to being healthy and fit and willing to do whatever it takes to get there. In other words…yes, it is a priority.

My questions are: What finally got you in the mindset that it was time to get fit? And if you were able to say one thing to get other started on that path…what would it be.

Lastly, does your family participate in some type of exercise program as well? Getting your girls started at a young age with one will help them make it a lifestyle they will maintain for the rest of their lives.

Again, awesome job! You should be proud and so should your family. Keep it up.

It took me until age 56 to start this journey. Now I know I too can get that single digit BF number in my column.

  21. I think the biggest thing is the “I can do it” attitude. I used to think I couldn’t eat all the healthy food because I’m actually a picky eater, but when I decided that I really wanted to be able to eat healthy and take good care of myself, I started forcing myself to eat food until I actually liked it and over the past couple months I’ve learned to like 4 different foods that I previously wouldn’t touch.

You can do it, you just need the motivation to make it happen.

Vince, I love that you’re going to start posting these interviews. I love seeing the success stories from people who actually get out there and just do it. Can’t wait to see more!

  27. Great interview Peter!

To all — Peter came up and introduced himself to me on the cruise recently that Vince was talking about, and I’m really proud of his achievements using our programs. He’s a perfect role model for what anybody can achieve if they truly make fitness a PRIORITY in their lives.

I admittedly got a little carried away with the partying on the boat… and Pete and I even devoured some late night pizza together (aka our “cheat meals”), but I made sure to bust my ass in the gym the next day taking advantage of those extra carbs for a good muscle pump, as I’m sure he did too.

Anyway Pete, it was great meeting you on the cruise and seeing how successful you’ve been with your transformation. You’re a great example for others trying to achieve similar goals. Congrats once again!
