Why Do You Want Something Beyond The Norm?

By

Vince Del Monte, WBFF Pro Fitness Model, Certified Fitness Trainer
and Nutritionist and author of No Nonsense Muscle
Building.

Continuing on the theme of blow beyond your genetic potential and betraying the impossible, today we’ll discuss the following:

Why Do You Want To Look Like Something
Greater Than The Norm?

Warning:

TODAY’S POST IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY.

The question I want you to ask yourself today may only be for the top 1-2% of my readers who are really serious about transforming their body and life….

The top 1-2% that are not trying to hit their genetic potential… but blow beyond it and take their gains to a whole new level!

This question is not for people who feel guilty about investing time into their body or away from their family.

This question is not for people who sporadically workout or rejoin the gym off and on.

This is not for you if show up late, slide out early, cheat your rep counts and hold anything back.

This is not for you if you’ve bought one of my programs and not even started yet. (Go start it today)

Let’s put it this way: This is not for you if you just can’t get your shit together.

Excuse my french!

Do Yourself A Favor And Keep Reading
If You’re Ready To Slap Your Genetics
In The Face…

Everyone has goals in 2011 which is completely normal.

But I’m speaking to you if you have goals that are beyond normal.

I know you’re out there and if you’re reading this — I’m talking to YOU. With 30 days into the New Year, you’re the guy (or gal) who is not settling for, “I want to have a good body….”   You want a great body!

You don’t want to look like a “normal” guy—you want to look like something greater.

You’re probably thinking how amazing it would be to blast through that plateau and go beyond — WAY BEYOND – your genetic potential.

If you have ever wanted an awe-inspiring one-of-a-kind body, that’s NORMAL too.

That’s right: it’s normal to want something beyond the norm.

DSC_0505

It doesn’t happen over night but with persistence, you CAN have
something  beyond the norm – I am living proof!

And if that’s you, it’s time to come out and prove it by telling us why on the comment section below.  I believe that writing helps visualize which leads to actualization.  Taking 2 minutes to answer this question will solidify your goals in 2011 and be a powerful little exercise for you.

Again, if you have average or modest goals and just train for general fitness and are content looking normal then don’t be offended or take this personal.  I love you just as much but today I’m speaking to those who are wired just like me.

This is ONLY for the 1-2% of my readers who don’t want to look like a “normal” guy or gal — you want to look like something greater.

Question for you:

Why do you want something beyond the norm? Why do YOU personally want to look like something greater in 2011?”

I want 300 comments on this one.  Keep your answer short and concise so you won’t forget it.  This question is not to win a prize but ingrain your REASON WHY into your head so you know why you’re doing what you’re doing.  If I ran into you on the streets you would be able to tell me in 30 seconds or less.  I’ll start…

Vince

P.S. Tomorrow you’re going to find out how  95% Of Programs You’ve Tried Have The Plateau Built Right Into The Program!

P.P.S. On February 1s I’ll be re opening Maximize Your Muscle: Blow Beyond Your Genetic Potential. It’s the same set of advanced programs I used to grow from 190-lbs of muscle to 210-lbs of muscle and has already had over 2,00 members prove they can defeat the “impossible.”   It’s geared towards intermediate and advanced bodybuilders or anyone just sick of being stuck in a rut.  Stay tuned…

  3. I want to be better than the norm because I want to be the one the guys say to themselves or to those close to them “man I wish I looked like that….To be an inspiration to those wanting to achieve what I have. Have that intimidating factor just with looking at me. To make myself a better, healthier person altogether.

  8. @Cam – I am 54 years old just had two back surgerys, have a chronic pulled illio tibial band in right leg and weight 176. I was down to 168 but my body fat was still 19%. If you can do it so can I. I ran/walked 11 miles yesterday but struggle to get myself into the gym more than once or twice a week. If you have any tips how to overcome a overwhelming family life. Help. I have four daughters and four grandkids and I can’t find enough time for myself without my wife feeling abandoned.

  14. “Why do you want something beyond the norm? Why do YOU personally want to look like something greater in 2011?”

I wanna change my life and put health and fitness as one of my top priority not just for 2011 but for my future. I am the type of person that wants some changes and look for a better self. And I know that I need to lose weight and be healthy, I know where I am now in my objective, but I need to ask myself HOW am I going to get there ?!? I need support and training, I need to learn about nutrition and healthy food. I know I have to change old habbits, and I started writing what I eat every day. I focus on eating 1300 calories and I bring my gym bag to work so that I am ready after work to go to the gym. I am ready to invest time and money to a better self esteem. That gives me strenght to reach my objective. I don’t want to live unhealthy and sick. I am looking to get healthier. I have a Polar watch to calculate the fitness program that I do every week. I look forward new posts from you Vince, you’re my mentor!

  18. I want to look like something better for two major reasons. One, I need to do so. I’m studying exercise physiology in school. Upon completion, I hope to either work in rehabilitation, a clinical/research environment, or working with a sports team. I need to be/appear as the person who can back up my knowledge with my appearance. Taking fashion advice from a person wearing pajamas and house shoes is difficult! Looking the part will help my credibility.
Two, (this might be pure vanity) I want the gratification of knowing that I can produce the body which I envision having. I have this goal and I’m working to reach it, so I equate the end-goal as the product of my efforts.

    Thanks, buddy!

  22. I’m turning 40 this year and I want to show on the outside how awesome I feel on the inside. I want to show some of those ladies that thin may be ok but fit with some muscle is smokin hot and that is where it’s at. Want to rock a bathing suit for my 10yr wedding anniversary trip this summer, so my husband can feel like a million bucks with a hot wife on his arm. People take what you say about health and nutrition way more seriously when how you look proves the point! As I’ve acheived goals I’ve set loftier ones because I’m acheiving them! The more confidence I have, the more productive I am, and the libido has gone through the roof (you can imagine how happy my husband is!) There is just so many health benifits – mental and physical! Life’s too short to waste it dealing with health issues because of being over weight or not being active. (which is how I spent the last decade)

  25. For the last 20 years I have been on the norm, getting sicker as the time passes everyday. But NOW, I want to be not only beyond the norm, but also want to be an inspiration for those wo have not decided it yet. I want to be healthier everyday, physical and psychological. My goals are simple, not only be in good shape, but be healthy and share health with others. And let’s make that the norm be healthy people, and not on the contrary, as it is today.
My history is large, but I think that is not important at all, what matters now, is the present, what you will start, what changes are you going to make TODAY, in order to archive your goals in the future.

  26. I don’t want to be the norm. Look at what we have become. We are fat, lazy, and unhappy. I want to become the best that God has intended for me. I want to wake up everyday and smile. I want the power to have energy, strength and love to share.

I started this process last Feb. I went to the Arnold Classis last May and it really hit home of what I will look like one day soon. I challenged myself. I entered a body transformation contest last summer. I recieved top ten of the females of 2200 people who entered. I had done it. I was proving to myself I will no longer be the norm! I have stepped up and becoming the person I should be. I will not accept being fat, unhappy, angry and unresponsible to myself and family. I AM NOT THE NORM!

  27. The reason why I want something greater than the norm is because, im tired of being so small, and being made fun of because of it. Im 15 years old, and i wrestle at 119 lbs! I hate it! Its not easy being the one whose picked on because of size. What I would like to happen, is that i could gain as much muscle mass as I can so I can show my success and that I might gain some respect. Ive told everyone what my goals are, and no one believes that i can reach them because im so small, so I want to show them what happens when you dont give up.

  28. I want something beyond the norm because I want to stand out. I don’t want to stand out to show off or impress others; I want to stand out to show my success and excellence to others through fitness and to demonstrate the concept of never quitting on your goals. Additionally, I want to look better than any other year of my life because it will not only give me more self confidence, but also to explain how I did it. This will make me feel better and hopefully others will feel better at the same if they push beyond their limits and reach their true goals.

  30. I want to look better than the norm for psychological reasons. Pushing past your potential is pushing the boundaries and that’s what makes the difference to me at the end of the day. Some people used to call me skinny which is degrading and makes you feel small. That’s what fuels me to push it harder every day and unleash energy I thought I never had inside and outside the gym. Thanks for your motivation Vince.

I’ve ALWAYS been a limb jumper (thats where the fruit is anyway) and an Extremist to “THE EDGE” and HARDCORE !!!!!!! I’m almost forty and chose not to good of a path from my iniitial plan for life, honestly law issues and substance abuse.. I’ve always been a firm believer IT’S NEVER TO LATE TO CHANGE AND OR MAKE A DIFFERENCE…. Getting myself to where and (I PRAY), beyond the physical condition I was as a star wrestler and linebacker back in highschool will be AWESOME !!!!!!!! VINCE, simpley put it’s something that NO ONE but myself can stop or take away!!!! I’VE NEVER BEEN NORMAL AND WHY START NOW??? Good question by the way, thanks for asking it was a pleasure to answer.

  34. I want to look something like greater than the norm to earn the respect of other people, especially other men. The military term “bearing” is kinda what leadership is made of. Sure, you’re strong minded and iron willed, and inside you’re a really tough guy, but most of the time, you also have to look the part. And looking strong can be a consequence of being strong, after lots of proper and dedicated training.

With these choices we made, I say we’re already better than the norm. We just have to prove it 😉

  37. I train with my cousin and have been since 2007. My goal has always been to get bigger and stronger than he is. After 3 years of training, that is still my goal, but there are a lot of other now. I’ve watched my physique get bigger and now I want not just to be bigger and stronger, i want to be more ripped, defined, have better bicep peaks, massive triceps and everything else. And I’ve noticed that ever since i started seeing results, my confidence has gone through the roof, I am no longer afraid to get out there and do things that i could do before. When…not if…when i achieve my fitness goals, I will continue to use this mindset I have inside and outside the gym, in all areas of my life.

  38. Arnold Schwarznegger once said “The meaning of life is not simply to exist, to survive, but to move ahead, to go up, to conquer.” We are all challenged everyday with stress, new achievements, new goals, LIFE, and the list goes on. So why do I want to go above and beyond my fitness goals, not for anyone else, not for any of you, not for some skinny guy at the gym to ask me everyday “hey man what do you do, what do you eat” but to know that I, myself, have conquered any obstacles life throws at me.

eff that. normality is a horrible way of living, if you arent constantly making moves, improving yourself and pushing yourself to your last limit, you aint Sh*t.
I take pride in knowing, my ass is at the gym hitting it almost daily. I look like I lift weights, I look like an athlete, and i GET LOOKS from everyone.
My body is definition of success.
My struggles are what make me beyond human.
    Never satisfied, and ALWAYS hungry.

  49. The more confidence I have in myself physically, reflects the other areas of my life.

Hence, the self-respect, value, and confidence you gain from an incredible “above average” body is a direct reflection to me as a symbol for life in general. It all starts with the hard work, motivation, determination and grit from bodybuilding that flows into relationships, finance, business, social skills, you name it.

Success gained from adversity will not crumble when faced with it – in this sense the gym is an embodiment of life; I go in battling day-in and day-out with the bar, knowing full well that if I conquer myself in the gym (and if I apply myself similarly in everything else I do), I conquer life.

I am a college freshman who has been following your emails for about 2 years now and I am not going home from college (I am out of state) until May, so for the first 4-5 months of 2011 I am hitting the gym with full force (and more) to transform myself from a small 120 pound former light weight wrestler into a monster, muscle-padded man on the beach at home this summer. I am going to shock everybody at home when I pull off my shirt during the first beach day of the summer with my friends.

If it was easy then all men would be muscular toned freaks and all women would have slim toned physique. Then we would all be looking for something else to chase out of the norm.

But for now, above the norm is this and this is what I’m chasing.

  77. Ever since I can remember I have always felt this strong energy inside me that pushes me towards my goals. Limitation is not in my vocabulary and I strive to be the best at everything I do. After reading a book called “Striking Thoughts”, by Bruce Lee, my perspective on just about everything changed. I was once a chubby little guy with no muscle whatsoever and an unhealthy lifestyle. But I was determined to make a change in my life before it turned into a major health issue. Four months later I had lost 39 lbs and I felt great! From that point on I knew that anything was possible with dedication, consistency, and some good old hard work. Anything worth doing is not going to be easy. From there I decided to build some muscle using Eric Wong’s 8 week muscle building routine. After completing the routine twice I found myself with 35lbs of extra muscle! Now I am training for a tournament and I am pushing myself above and beyond. Lets face it I am not trying to get my head knocked off my shoulders :X

What I am trying to say is if you believe in yourself, know who you are, anything is possible.

  80. “Why do you want something beyond the norm? Why do YOU personally want to look like something greater in 2011?”

Because “norm” is existing. Going against the “norm,” is living. A man only lives 70-80 years, if he gets there. I am 35, halfway through my life… there is no time for “norm!” Lifting is like life, when you think you can’t, you try. But trying is not enough, you must do. Keeping pushing and pushing and pushing until there is nothing left, then you know you lived life.

I want beyond “norm” because there is no other way. That is living!

Everyone is beautifully and wonderfully made, in the image of the Heavenly FATHER. When you realize that, you can’t fail! As long as you are breathing, you can!

  81. Well , I have a little problem on my chest that I can’t quite talk about , but it’s just something about my ribs . I’ve been bodybuilding at home with some 10kg dumbbells for about 3 years , and I must say that my body advanced even more than anyone expected , or even more than other people at gym are doing it in 3 years . I started to go to gym 1 year ago , and my performance is even better . What motivates me is the problem that I was talkin’ about . So , we come back to your question : Why I want something beyond the normal? , here’s my answer : ALL of us are looking forward for something that we may or may not achieve and we see ourselves in future in some kind of way . Unfortunately you can’t quite get EXACTLY how you really want it , and other than that is this problem: The time . We all want to do it as fast as possible , and if you get on a limit and you can’t progress for some time , your moral falls down , and all you worked for so many years becomes a waste of time .So , it’s something from our own instinct to go beyond the normal. And my own instinct says it . Also knowing that it actually works , makes you go on .

  82. You see…….I’m getting desperate about something. Throughout the last couple of years, I’ve been working out hard…..and consisent. But only the first 9 weeks worked. And it’s so unfair, I only have an extra 20 pounds since then to show for my efforts. I keep telling myself……’Davin, you’re doing the wrong thing, it’s NOT your gene’s fault’…and how i wish that is true. But the problem is, what should I do? Everytime when I’m in school, as usual, I just blend in. No one notices me….And it’s not the attention that i want….and neither the girls….But Why I’m doing this? It’s because of myself. yes, I admit. 2 years ago my reason of doing this is as a defence against bullies……But now, that reason is no more…For now, I’m the one who drive myself to the limit. It’s for personal joy……And i’m not gonna be happy until I get what i want. it’s different to be out of the ordinary…….I hate it when the entire class flick me off whenever i start talking….Don’t i have any charisma? I think by being different in a good way(like what Lee said), will definitely clear that problem off…..I’ve had enough of them. I’ve been telling myself, all the time. I’ve had it……I’m gonna show them what I’m made of…..I’m not intending to bully anyone, I just wanna have the respect that I deserve. I’m driven insane with this purpose….and because of that, nothing will ever stop me from doing all that I can to reach the fitness goal that I want. I’m willing to put every single thing aside for this.

  83. I want to be better than the norm because I want to inspire others. There is the vanity aspect, of wanting to be proud of what I see when I look in the mirror. I mean, I’m doing this for myself first and foremost, so that I can have a body to be proud of. But once that’s been done, I want to use my new body as a platform to inspire others to success. I want to make a change in the world, in this obesity epidemic and help show that anyone can have the body of their dreams, and help people to achieve that. And, quite simply, I don’t want to just blend in with the crowd. I want to stand out. I want to be different. I can’t think of any reason to want to just be “that guy” that just doesn’t really get noticed or really have anything to offer that any other guy doesn’t. That’s not a life worth living.

I believe that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. I work a 9-5 job in the city but I make time for exercise whether it is in the gym every lunch break or a game of football or golf at the weekend or trying a new sport just to see if I can do it. I also make time to prepare proper healthy fresh food which also tastes great. When I look at someone who is lazy and a fast food junkie it inspires me never to be like that. 88. It’s quite simple for me. I’ve always been beyond the norm in other aspects of my life. I’ll tell you what I’m proud of. I live in Mississauga, and although it’s defines multiculturalism, people still think they know what each culture or “colour” is supposed to be like. I’m of East Indian descent and I’m one of the biggest metalheads around. I also play the guitar and used to teach privately. I still get the “you’re not like others” comment when I tell people about my passion for heavy metal and guitar. I blew everyone off the stage back in 2003 at a show in my high school. I was always mocked up until that day about how “brown guys can’t play.” That day all my naysayers were there to support their friends and I made them all look like amateurs even though I taught myself to play and didn’t take a formal guitar lesson until 2008 from a former Megadeth guitar player. Everything I want to do is different from others around me so it ends up that way for me. But I like it that way. Never want to be like others, or atleast regular people.

  91. If you can be better than you are, you should try. It doesn’t make any difference whether its improving your body, your mind or adding or upgrading your skills set. You owe it to yourself and the world you live in to do your best.

In later years, not many may remember your accomplishments, but you will have a happiness and sense of well-being within yourself by knowing you gave a first class effort. Knowing that you and some things around you are a bit better because you performed at your best level.

Attaining your best, will be unexpectedly useful. An example? = A few years ago, I needed to have two total hip replacements. Because I was so old, I had to pass a chemical/physical stress test in order to get the operations.

This stress test is very extensive and takes about 4-5 hours.

My doctors were shocked when I passed the test at a level indicating I was easily ten years younger than my actual age. 🙂

As of this writing, I am 77 years old. I’ve lived it and I’m still living it as written above.

If you care about yourself and those around you, take the path I’ve outlined and never look back. The forward view just gets better.

  93. I want more than the norm because I have decided I’m worth it! A little more than 2 years ago, I had a serious health crisis – an episode with Atrial Fibrillation. After two days in the hospital, I was told I’d be on blood thinners the rest of my life. I refused that life (death) sentence and got to work. With the help of my doctors, my family and a lot of hard work, I’m down 85 lbs and NEVER going back. Now I need to continue my reshaping and build muscle. I deserve nothing less than a ABOVE AVERAGE body – a PHENOMENAL body – because I’m going to put in the WORK to get it!

  95. Being comfortable feels like settling “for what it is”, rather than going out of your comfort zone to produce some sort of change. That’s what beyond the norm means to me-it means us wanting to go the extra mile to show that we can go beyond a limit, and when we do we become living testament that others can learn from.

Settling a goal and achieving it makes me happy, makes me want to keep setting more goals, and the ultimate compliment is someone recognizing my achievement and asking how I got there.

Beyond the norm means no settling or limiting myself: belief that I can be more than I think I can, and pride when I get to where I want to go.

As he has challenged himself to be responsible for ‘mining his own acres of diamonds’ he has also enriched the lives of others on multiple positive levels.

We want to live above the norm because once you set your mind on ‘the norm’ you begin to slide downwards. I don’t want it said of me, “Died: age 35 “Buried: age 80.

  100. Dear Vince,

I wanna be above the norm because I have been grown up with the sentence “you are not good/stong/beautiful enough” and especially as a young woman it is hard to handle this. So I tried very hard to be better than avarage in school and other fields but it did not fill me out. But then I stumbled across a fitness magazine: all these buff ladies and I knew I absolutely wanted to look like that!! On top of that I found your website with your beatiful Flavia (she absolutely is my rolemodel!!) and now I am really hooked!! I want to life the bodybuilding/Fitness lifestyle because I love it. It brings so much joy and spirit in my life and I put my whole willpower in it. I even don’t need the extra motivation. I simply want it so bad!! I just need more help in training and eating strategies…
Many greetings from beatiful Bavaria (Germany)

The norm is what it is, normal. Nothing bad, nothing good. Just normal.

Life, is to live. The ‘norm’ doesn’t seem to accomodate this.

So in every area of my life, I seek to rise and soar above the norm, because I know I’m destined for something greater.

  111. I want to look better than the norm, because I have been at other end of the scale, and know how that feels!

I believe that deep down inside we all want to be the best, or better than most, in at least one area of life. This urge lie buried deep in our minds. And maybe, just maybe, this breakthrough in our lives could be reached through striving for the ultimate physique. By blowing past our genetic limitations, and achieve what others say is impossible.
I know I am not alone in being challenged by statements like “you’ll never make it”, “it’s impossible to do”, “it’s not within your capabilities”, etc., etc.. That always makes me think, let me just show them!!!
That’s the way it is with challenging my own physique. Over the last 3 years I have shed over 60lbs of fat, gained around 25lbs of lean muscle, lowered my fat percentage from just over 30 to 13. Many people assured me it couldn’t be done. Don’t aim so high, you’ll just be disappointed when you fail.
After I succeeded the same people told me, it won’t last. Just you wait until you get settled back into the couch and start eating like you used to! Then see what happens, within a year you’ll be back to where you started!
But they were so wrong on many accounts. First of all I didn’t go back to the old ways. That was the whole point of my transformation, to create a new lifestyle, leading an active life, exercising, working out and eating healthier. And this is why I succeeded.
Now that I’m here, I can hardly believe it myself. I’m being admired, people ask me how I did it, and was I never in doubt? Of course I was, but every time I was knocked over by accidents, injuries or other setbacks, I got back on my feet and picked up where I left. So perseverance was a great part of it, coupled with a desire to excel.
So you’ve got me conVinced , Vince. You can blow past your potential, not the least when that potential is defined and determined by your surroundings. What do they know? Nothning.
So January 1st I started on MYM, gained 4-6lbs of muscle the first month, kept the fat percentage at 13, so I’m on to next month, can’t wait to get started. This is looking good, a whole year planned ahead, just what I needed instead of just short and intensive programs, that always beg the question: What next?
Thanks again Vince, I truly believe your “mantra”, that it is possible to blow past your genetic potential, because after all: Who is to determine what your potential is? Nobody but yourself!
    Yours in fitness
    Tom

  114. I want to look better than the norm because that is where the true joy is found in life. Aiming to be the best “me” that I can be, helps me to blaze my own trail and leave the sheep behind who are all doubting their potential and stuck in their comfort zone. Aiming higher than normal forces me to grow and develop in ways that I can only dream. Every time I hit the gym I work a little bit harder, each day I wake up I push myself to become more motivated, every time I plan a meal I eat something my “best self” would eat. Every day I push the norm away while simultaneously moving in the direction of the unknown…this is where the top 1 – 2% of achievers are found and this is where I will end up sooner or later.

Four-and-a-half years ago I hit 40. I was the average “flabby, out of shape, developing a pot-belly and man-boobs, aiming for heart disease” man with 2 young children and an unhappy wife.

Last Thursday I walked into my Gym, deadlifted a new Personal Best of 210kg (462lbs) and then 5 reps at 180kg (396lbs). I walked out of that Gym having shocked and impressed at least 3 of the guys there… and inspired a few more. I got their respect by lifting a weight they never thought I could shift.

On Saturday, I went “clothes shopping” with my extended family. I walked out of the changing room in a Large-sized T-Shirt with my chest and arms filling it out. I’m still no model but that gave me a huge kick! No pot-belly this time either!

My confidence is growing, my strength is growing, my body is growing, my health has improved, and other people’s respect for me is growing. I am happy. My goals? I will improve in all areas, but most of all with my family.

This sounds like a cliche, but I’ll say it anyway, as this was what went wrong with me. Life is a journey that YOU need to steer for YOURSELF. YOU make yourself what YOU are. Take charge of YOUR life. Treat others with the respect you want from others. You only live once – there is no second-chance.

  123. Purely and simply – if you’re healthy then you owe it to yourself and your genes to look great. I feel, especially as a 24 yr old man, that not being able to see your abs shows you’re flabby in other areas of life too. When I decided to go for it and get a six pack in time for Christmas, I felt fantastic and still do.
Having a fit and powerful body is a source of inspiration for me and perhaps others too, although at 12.5% and 175lb I have some way to go to achieve my goal of 185lb and 10% fat.

A word of warning though: we are all made of mind, soul, and body. It’s easy to focus (or ‘obsess’, admittedly in my case) on your body because it’s something you can tangibly control. However, don’t forget what else is important to you!

  131. The least I can do is post a comment as I am one of those who have taken advantage of your generosity in posting such a wealth of knowledge for our benefit.
FOR ME, it is the satisfaction I get when I am the catalyst even in a small way
to transform someones life for the better, have sex appeal, and my kids, nephews, nieces & friends who I have a lot of, take me as a good example.
A good physique is the icing on the cake of a good personality.
MY GOAL for 2011 is to overcome the stumbling blocks, physicaly and otherwise of 2010 and living upto who I am in my mind and heart than the 50 years I am.

  133. It’s not about the looks, it’s about how far I can go to challenge myself. To explore where my limits are is my real motivation, to achieve things that others walk away because they believe it is too hard. Pushing myself harder when others give up and succeed when others walk away. This doesn’t need anything else than the conviction that you can achieve whatever you want as long as you believe in it and have the will to pull it through.

  135. I want to look “beyond normal” because I AM beyond normal. I know I am an extraordinary person and I need to look extraordinary. I am a personal trainer and I need to inspire people to improve their fitness so that they can be at least as fit as I am. I am as old as most of their mothers and I perform better than they do. I drive my clients to improve and they drive me to stay ahead.

Additionally, because I have no children and I intend to outlive the rest of my immediate family, I will have no one to care for me or even visit me when I’m old and in an assisted living center. Still, I plan to continue training myself and inspiring others. I will maintain a life of fitness and a sense of purpose until the day I die, leaving a fit and capable body behind.

  136. I realize that my appearance is changing drastically, but the goal is high-level, physical function. I have been disabled for ten years. Last May, 2011, I radically altered my diet, and added resistance, weight training to my swimming regimen – this is something I did not think possible prior to May. I am have lost much weight, and gained considerable stamina and muscle. These changes have transformed my ability to function. I am done with canes and wheel chairs. I am driving farther than two miles where before I could only drive short distances with little traffic. My vigor and motivation has skyrocketed. Even though I am fifty-six and filled with neurological deficit, the word “limits” is no longer in my vocabulary. Thanks for you help Mr. Delmonte!

  137. Outstanding post Vince.

I think we’ve conditioned by society to think that to want more out of life is materialistic and somehow even ‘non-spiritual’ . We’ve been told that there’s not enough money and wanting more of it is selfish (thats you federal bankers Im talking about!). We’ve been led to think that loving yourself is egotistical and narcissistic. Any time you try to achieve more, the general consensus its that you are only thinking about yourself and that is not right.

Until you achieve a certain amount of fulfillment by achieving your goals through discipline and determination, you have no real knowledge, wisdom or life experience to pass onto others. This applies to training, relationships, parenting or business. Life is a gift and it is a crime against yourself and humanity to not make the most yourself!

    Thanks Vince!

Since I’m studying to be a Biomedical Engineer, its pretty clear I don’t procrastinate nor am I afraid of challenges, so when it comes to how much effort I can put into being the best, there is no doubt I will search for the best way or strategy to get the perfect body. I am currently under 20 years old and I have decided I’m gonna be rich and look like Hulk before I am 30 years old, which for the Hulk looking part it is going to be a piece of cake… Now, is this the type of confidence Vince is asking for? I hope so, because when I do it, I do it big…and if you are not first, you are last. xD

  141. I want to be beyond the norm because I AM beyond the norm – just not necessarily in body shape. I am accomplished in many things but I am a slave to my humility; it prevents me from talking about what I have achieved in most circumstances.

I want to take the physical path that you, Vince, were led by that guy from your church, because I will then be freed from my humility; no longer will I be capable of hiding the fact that I am beyond the norm, and although some people can already see through me, I will finally be seen for who I truly am by all people who see me in less than 10 seconds of contact.

I train 5 days a week, I do sprint work 2 days a week, I eat properly, hell I even go without beer for months on end to try and achieve my ultimate goal, a six pack. All I want is to one day feel confident enough to be able to go to the beach with my beautiful wife and my three incredible kids and not feel like a fat dad. I dont think I can work any harder, what I need is someone to help me work smarter and from what I have seen and read you are that someone. Vince can you please help me, I live in Australia, a country sounded by beaches as well as very hot summers, I want to feel proud of my body instead of covering it up. I need your help Vince. 158. First of all, “Normal” is pretty pathetic these days. Sitting around getting unhealthier and fatter with each passing day, popping pills to keep blood pressure and blood sugar under control when all you have to do is move and eat better to accomplish the same thing with only beneficial side effects instead of more problems.

I like to be able to show women that you can stay in shape at any age and after 2 babies, including a cesaerean delivery. It feels pretty awesome when I hear my husband tell my teenage son that “It’s bad when your mom looks better than your girlfriends” and my son says “But she’s not a normal Mom, she’s still hot! That will be hard to beat.” And he’s jealous of my 6-pack! Plus seeing the guys in the gym stop their workout and drop their jaws while watching me doing pull-ups, my record is 13 so far. PRICELESS.

  160. I want to be greater in 2010 for one reason, and one reason only. I’m sick and tired of being on the self image pitty potty. My self image has negatively influenced my health, my lovelife, my satisfaction with life, my ability to participate in team sports…..it’s just been paralyzing. And the worst thing is, I’ve let it happen and have been victimized by my own inability to make a choice. Well that all stopped 2 days ago. No more pitty potty. No more self doubt. The time for transformation has come. I can’t stand it anymore. I’m done with the old excuses. I’m saying NO to new excuses. For once in my life, I’m making a choice for me, for my benefit. The way I feel about myself begins by redefining who I am on the inside. Second, by redesigning what I look like on the outside. And third, by realizing that how you look and feel directly and indirectly impacts relationships with friends and family AND success in every other area. For the first time, Vince, you have opened my eyes, given me hope and honesty, and equipped me with the tools to be successful. It’s now put up or shut up time. This is a life defining moment for me. I’m excited about that. Vince, I owe you more than you will ever know. Bless you!!!

  162. Why do I want it ~

Feel, if a person truly commits to a training / nutrition program it will succeed in some aspects, just takes heart and focus, that and WANTing to become better helps create a Goal ~ a Focus ~ so no matter what, busy work days, or other challenges, a person continues in the direction of their goal.

Also, a person, or trainer not dwelling on the past, instead helping the person focus on the “NOW” and move forward is excellent thinking and wish more people (especially trainers) did this. That is another reason feel Vince here is an exceptional coach, he embodies these qualities along with a passion for helping others through his knowledge and experiences, himself continually seeking new challenges in learning as well as growth.

Reminds me of a quote: “I like for things to happen and if they don’t happen I like to make them happen.”— Winston Churchill

Further feel if a person can give a truly deep down heart felt yes to these basic questions, then they will face, over-come, and GROW from any challenge.

How bad do you REALLY want it?
Are you willing to make a choice?
Very rarely do people make choices that fundamentally effect their lives.
For example, changing channels on the TV is not something that fundamentally effects your life. You have to step up to the plate and make a fundamental life changing choice.
Do you have the courage to start now? We get people that make choices but do not do anything to get started. Half the people that made a choice drop out at this stage. They do not take the first step to move in the direction that they want.
Do you have the commitment to finish? You can start, but can you finish? This is where most people disappear. Very few people finish. People can start things, but can they see it through the end? Can they be there when it matters?

To share a little bit, also learned that while facing a challenge, asking myself these questions really really helped in my staying focused as well as taking the steps each day toward my goals.

Actually there is no real thing called “focus” per se. Really what people are describing is an occurance that has already passed. Our lives are a success of moments of now. The moment you go back to describe it, you are reporting an event that has already taken place.
    ~Focus is a state of being ~

For at least myself, feel this has helped me face some incredible challenges while after conquering them “Owning Them” actually grew from them, in a way could say challenges are ways we can liberate ourselves from our own boundaries we’ve previously placed on ourselves.

When it comes down to it, feel that experiencing challenges, then growing from them is the most important, like getting back to the “Biggest Loser” by facing the previous failure,
Go ~ Grow beyond it ….don’t waste time and energy dwelling on it!

Really enjoyed the challenges and opportuniteis for growth I’ve experienced with JVince’s workout and nutrition program, along with recieving Awesome coaching from Vince, too.

    Everyone!!
Let this season be the stepping stone to a happy ~ healthy New Body Year !

  169. I’m about to be a freshman in college, and all throughout all my school years, I’ve been a small man. I was great at track, nice muscular legs, but I get tired of people calling me stick man, and skinny minny, and other shit like that. Because I’m skinny, I can’t seem to pick up chicks, one reason is that I’m very country accent and all, (i’m a black dude), and all the good ones are taken by the jocks. So my plan for the next year or so is to gain 50 or so pounds of muscle mass, I want to fill out my shirts, I want people to show me respect, and it would make me feel better as well.

  172. I just want to be happy. Having a body beyond the norm would be the final trophy. But most of all I want to have a healthy and a very happy life. I think that with a body beyond the norm, I could have more respect from ppl. And if I want to help ppl that have problems with weight I have to look great so that they trust me and know that I could be the solution of their problem. With the perfect body I can go out on the streets and everybody could recognize all my efforts.
    Thanks Vince 🙂

  175. I want to go beyond the norm because I am sick and tired of being skinny, tall guy who hasn’t lived up to all my known potential. I know with the added muscle I can kick the door open instead of waiting for things to happen to me. I really just want to live the life that I deserve. Of course the extra attention from the ladies is always an added bonus. 😀 😀

  176. 2nd comment: Just got an e-mail stating I had not made a comment. I did on December 23, however…. A couple years ago I was playing volleyball and took off my shirt due. Nobody even noticed. I don’t want that to happen again. Another reason is that as we age we “supposedly” lose muscle mass. I want to have enough surplus to where it doesn’t effect me to lose a little – not to mention I want to see if they are wrong. Do we lose muscle mass because we grow older or do we lose it as we grow older because we quit using it? Either way, when I die at 218 years of age, I want to look like a well-conditioned 30 year old. Yes, I have a ways to go, but, then again, I have the time.

  178. I want to look better than the norm because I am in no way normal. 🙂 I am the proud father of two boys 3/8, I am a Full time Student and I serve Our Wonderful Nation as a US Navy CORPSMAN. I am 35 y/o and in no way do I intend on feeling 35. I want to be able to do and perform my job as a Parent and as a Corpsman to the best of my ability, without putting myself at risk of injury.
I have been to the point of looking at myself in the mirror and asking ” Who and or what am I becoming, I turn sideways and start to see my family resemblance, If you know what I mean. . . .
I have been working for the past 6 months as much as possible I spend at least one day in the gym if my class schedule is really heavy but to maximize my days sometimes 4-5 days a week If I can manage it. My 8 y/o is now accompanying me and wanting to work out, with that said I also would like to be a model of what hard work and dedication can be for both of my boys as well.
    Thanks,
    Happy New Year

  179. Why do I want to be something beyond the norm? Because the norm for women my age (48) is scary. Look around. And it only gets worse. I want to be the example of ‘it’s possible’. Good enough isn’t good enough. It doesn’t have to be the norm. The norm to me is like giving up. I don’t give up.

  181. For a while now, I’ve been working on taking charge of my health. I’m 31, soon to be 32, and my body just doesn’t work like it did 10 years ago. Then about a week ago, my wife told me she is pregnant with our first baby!

I want to get stronger so I can take care of her through the pregnancy, take care of our child for the next 20 years (!) and be a “young” father – not some prematurely “old” man who can’t stop complaining about being tired and overweight.

I want to look good, fit, powerful so I can take my career to the next level, now that I have a family depending on me (cuz let’s face it, looks count!) Mostly, I want to fight for this life I’ve been blessed with, I want to live it to the fullest, and make the most of every second because I’m thankful to be alive!

So I am going to say goodbye to 20 years of poor posture, short hair, and an ordinary physic and get a body in which I could wear a bikini with confidence just for me!

I am no longer thinking that my best days of a better body have passed but are waiting right ahead of me to claim. I have started growing my hair, began pilates for my posture, have lost 17lbs (8kgs) thru Cheat Your Way Thin and become a gym member and now I am going to trust in your program Vince to help me achieve a body I can be proud of.

    #1 – I want to be healthy for my family, so they can depend on me and look to me as a role model for being healthy themselves;
#2 – I want to blaze a new trail in my industry and redefine the “stereo-type” of how an opera singer looks. I want people to think of a muscled, healthy-looking “bruiser” instead of “fat guys”.
#3 – I want to inspire others to follow the path.

Beer guts, flabby skin, content with what they feel is a great “look”. Really? You can talk the talk, but my goal is to not only talk it, but walk it with a fantastic overall shape and size for my 5’8″ frame. It’s taken 2 years to work at getting above a lean and pretty solid 150 lbs. My goal has been 165-170 lbs of solid mass with low body fat. 2010 will be “MY” year to get my way there and keep it for life. I’d love to end 2010 with a big “Thank You Vince” email and pics. 208. Why Do I Want To Look Like Something Greater Than The Norm?

Norm to me means average, the generally accepted level or just plain and simple normal!

This is n o t what I’m after in terms of improving my physique. I want to go beyond the norm, to excel in this area of my life.

I have already reached good results from working out consistently and intensely, but in 2010 I want to go that extra mile and strive for excellence.

I have already experienced the benefits of a greater physique, how it rubs off on other areas of your life and generally boosts your self confidence.

And this leads to my ultimate goal, to achieve a physique above the norm, to set an example for my family and persons around me that I care for and love. To show that everything is possible if you decide to go for it, no holds barred, nothing held back and with full commitment!

To me greater than the norm, means to strive for excellence beyond the accepted norm. I want to excel in improving my physique,

If this body is the tabernacle, His home, then I want to treat it with the attention it deserves and is worthy of . 212. Do you want to win the fitness game? Or do you want to sit on the sidelines or worse yet in the bleachers watching the game go by?! If your choice isn’t to be an active player this is your choice. Fine. Accept that as your choice and refrain from telling everyone you would play but genetics stops you!

Genetics has become too convenient an excuse to not get into the game. Just look at all the photos in Vince’s Transformation Contest. Many of those may have thought they didn’t have good genetics but said screw it, I’m going to win this one!

Sure genetics may not allow you to get like Arnold or even like Vince. So what? Why not go for what you CAN sculpt your body into?

For those who do want to win the fitness game, you’ll need a game plan. There are many out there. What will work for you will only be known by trying them out. I tried many until I found Vince’s worked the best for me.

Understand entering into the game isn’t going to be a piece of cake. You’ll be in the hurt zone, sucking for air, come up against barriers, want to quit…This IS part of the game where you need to dig deep inside, pull yourself up and get back on track.

The end result – a body you will be proud of, you’ll understand more about what you CAN accomplish, know that you CAN overcome obstacles. Know that you might be an inspiration to others. You may even become a coach to those yearning to get fit. You’ll be a walking example that the fitness game CAN be won if you’ve got the guts to play.

The majority of the population in the US is obese so if you chose to get into the game, you’ll be in the minority. Which would group would YOU rather be in?! So again, do YOU want to win the fitness game? If so, grab a game plan and come join the rest of us who ARE winning!

  221. In 2010 I know I will have the potential to finally reach and surpass limits when it comes to my body. I am really stepping it up with my lifestyle nutrition and training! I am already seeing results in the past couple weeks alone in just using your program. I am looking forward to how it will look towards 2010!!! I am even more committed than ever to acheive the body I want to gain respect and strut my confidence through the roof!!!!! I will also be respected more by women and even get more dates out of it as well! It is a tough journey but for me it’s well worth it and I want it badly!!!! My training regimen has been great thus far. I have been going to bed and waking up early, I’ve been eating more nutrition to fuel my body and doing my weight training along with the cardio to keep body fat low. I’ve even taken the time out this time to log my workouts into my journal, as well as body measurements, weight, and once I get some calipers my body fat %! I am taking this seriously and it’s even motivating me to get into the kitchen even more to get the results I want even more!

  227. I have two reasons. Both go back in time. I already had two kids and I was carrying the third with me in my thoughts – at that time I promised myself that if I do I will get in the top shape afterwards. And I did have my third. That’s the first reason – I’ve made a promise a while ago.
When I was a kid my mom was getting into worse and worse shape. She still is. 🙁 And she is convinced that she cannot do anything about it. I want to show her a way out of the corner she has played herself into. Hopefully she’ll listen to me one day. Her weight is already getting to his health… Eventually I want to save my kids grandma. I believe in showing by example, noone believes bare preaching. That’s the second reason.

  237. Simple to answer really. Tired of the decline around us. Take a good look at the people in this country. Now go back 25-30 years and take a look. A once proud nation that housed people who for the most part took care of themselves- not through amazing techniques, medical breakthroughs, or gimicks. Today, we are a nation of excuses. Of “political correctness.” “You can’t call them fat, that may hurt their feelings.” “It is not fair to them to call them fat!” Yet 60% of the people in this country are obese, and it is killing them. But due to “technology,” we live longer. Not better lives- in fact, most are miserable- just longer. It is a war of lies- from the food industry, to the pharmaceutical industry. All led by lawyers and politicians who reap the benefits of our money in terms of political correctness. Think I am wrong? Go down to the mall and take a look. I was in Vancouver, Canada recently, and my God I was shocked. 9 out of 10 people looked great. I walk outside here in Oregon, and 9 out of 10 look like shit. So you want to know why I don’t want to be a part of the norm? Well, that is self-explanatory….

I’m 16 years old and I am a slightly above average in muscular strength for my age. However I wish to become above the norm firstly because I feel more proud of myself with a nicer physicue. Also, the ability to increase your stamina and body chi whilst training is a passionate result. Apart from that I want to look bigger in front of the girls. 😛

My goal for 2010 is to continue increasing at least 2 lbs of lean muscle per month with the help of your advices 🙂

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all !!

  247. Why?

Because everything I do in business strives for perfection.

Because everything I do socially strives for happiness.

Because everything I do in LIFE – yes MY life – strives for excellence.

    Why?

Because the mundane is for the mundane …

Because the past is for the old …

Because the future is for ME – the NEW …

    It is simple Vince …

If ANYONE is to better themselves (and I’m talking ANYONE), they CANNOT live in the past and the old otherwise they become mundane and antiquated.

I started the amazing transformation and stopped only a few weeks into it – business opportunities found me first – before I could continue successfully with my fitness and physique.

Now that business, money and life generally have flourished, I have a concrete foundation to start again and become WAY more than I imagined when I first started those many many months ago.

Time, experience and knowledge – these are my armaments.

2010 – Its very simple … Because I DESERVE to be WAY more than the norm!

I think if I am jacked and lean it reflects how much discipline and effort I put into it and no matter what gets in in my way I’ll stay on track and achieve whatever my goals are in every area of your life. I see it as a competition with myself and the limits I’m setting for myself and if I can go beyond them it gives me self-affirmation.
Apart from that, it strengthens my self confidence which reflects from the inside to the outside so other people will notice it too.

  251. My reason: I want to be like you – or better ! No kidding, I don’t wanna be ass kissing or anything, but you’re pretty much exactly what I’ve dreamt abput becoming for quite some years now (I’m 18).. I’m not necessarily talking about your looks (I don’t have your build, but I want to take my body to the limit and beyond) as much as your personality.. As far as I’m concerned we’re pretty much the same, I can follow your in just about everything you’ve told us readers so far about your personality – it’s like you’re describing me ! But back to the point, and I’ll keep it very short and clear:
I too want to be a fitness/nutrition coach and for me to be able to do that and be honest to myself, I have to be the answer – not jut give them away. One last word – INSPIRATION !

I am also doing it for the improved self-esteem, energy levels, strength(physical and mental) and overall good health. The secret of youth lies in youthful muscles, and I cannot pass up the opportunity to get mine into a better condition.

  254. Few reasons WHY I want to stand out

First of all I want to be a role model to motivate the people around me and push them harder to beyond what they even think is in reach.

Second of all the people who stand out and accomplish things are the people that have success with just about anything in life.

Third of all I want to look back one day and not worry about not executing because I didn’t think it was possible, I want to look back one day and be proud by the way I reshaped my life.
