Hey Vince (and guys), I’m a skinny 15 year old that’s 178cm tall and 63 kg. I have the outlines of abs on my stomach but I can never seem to get the whole thing to show through. However, I’m already underweight and I’m wondering if I should do the fat-burning program. Could you please give me some advice? :)

I’m a teenager, and don’t really care about twilight. I’m into supernatural (a tv series) it has jensen ackles and Jared padalecki. They are RIPPED!! And my motivation. I’m 6′ 3″ and weigh alittle over 140. I don’t have much money and go workout in my weight training class with lots of good free weight equipment. I have got little results. Can you show me how to get ripped? I’m sick of being skinny and seeing others with way bigger arms than me and way stronger than me.

  8. liam says:

hey there vince see Taylor Lautner has a mesomorphic body so it was a little easier for him than for us ecto’s but i understand what your saying that he is a role model for us teenagers (as i am one myself) still have that ectomorphic body well i’ve been going for about 6 months now i was 130 pounds (as i am an ectomorph too) now i’m just on 154 probably have some body fat on me but am proud of it.

Why would they be exaggerated? Those are not unrealistic goals. Taylor did not do anything that any normal male can not achieve.

Come on Trey, you’re not jealous? Every body is jealous of my physique. But I guess you missed that sarcasm too :)

And I look better than Rambo. Maybe not my hair but my body for sure.

Even though i work out when i saw new moon the first thing i wanted to do afterwards was hit the gym.  in the newletter you mentioned things like how hard taylor had to work to reach is goal of building 30 pounds of oure muscle in a short period of time which proved that it was possible to do it in a short period of time.  What i wanted to ask which i realised was even though he spent 6-9 months trying to gain weight in the end how did he manage to look so ripped?  In that time it looks like he didnt gain any body fat at all and if he did how did he manage to gain 30 pounds and still be as ripped as he was in 9 months? I always thought that when you try to gain that much you would also gaing some fat but it doesnt look like he did. On another note ım about to enter second mass phase and from my first i wanted to correct any mistakes i made.  During my first phase i managed to put on some weight in the first 3 months however i hit a plataue and did not gain anything at all in the second halfof the program.  What would you suggest i do to correct this during my next mass phase?

PS- Unfortunelty i lost some of the muscle i gained during my cutting phase which is frustrating cause now it feels like all that effort went to waste.  I dont know what i did wrond but i didnt lose any fat but lost muscle instead while trying to cut now i have to work twice as hard to make that back.

  13. Zaf says:

Taylor’s workout is perhaps one of the most sought after programs because it realistically shows that real gains are attainable with a dedicated and disciplined application of a sensible workout regimen. I have yet to read on the net or elsewhere that his transformed physique is as a result of anything but, and all interviews indicate, in my opinion, that his explanations are sincere and true.

That being said, his trainers or handlers are keeping his workout program a closely guarded secret, leaving many a self-professed fitness experts to tout that they know, or have a very similar program, which they are of course selling to the gullible.

I am glad that Vince hasn’t jumped on this bandwagon, and hasn’t claimed to know what Taylor did except by what he said for himself. Nor has Vince tried to fill in the blanks with speculation, but only to draw from Taylor’s comments and make recommendations around NNMB which can stand perfectly on its own. It’s refreshing though to get some new inspiration that makes you want to dust off that NNMB program and really apply it with renewed focus, instead of hunting all over for “Taylor’s Secret Workout”, which, at the end of the day, isn’t really a secret. He just applied it the right way.

  14. James says:

@Vince – yeah i know, a long time ago I accepted that life isn’t about how fun it is but the satisfaction in accomplishing something and that you can enjoy the little things in life. Anyway I accept your challenge I was thinking that i can ease them into liking to workout by coming up with exercises that we can make a game out of like, who load my truck the fastest or who can push it the fastest. Then eventually get in the gym and let them feel how awesome it is to lift weights.

  15. Klint says:

I was in the theater the night New Moon came out, and I’m glad that I am bigger and stronger than Taylor because those Twihards were getting pushy. Ha

Great post, thanks for for the accurate info

  16. Baz says:

Just on one of Taylors points also. It is hard to increase time under tension with heavy weights. You need to increae TUT and weights to build muscle but which is more important? Is it better to start light and build up to heavier weight while maintaining the same TUT?

  17. Baz says:

It seems like Taylor lautner went flat out for 6 months and made alot of progress. I know it would be possible for all of is to do the same if we did not plateau somewhere in the program. Taylor looks like he didn’t plateau at all. He started and kept growing until he was at his goal.

Why is it that we plateau while building muscle? I would have thought that it would be because your body gets used to the excerices and rep ranges you do, however, a big selling point of Vinces programs is the varying in reps, sets, excercises etc in order to prevent plateaus and keep the program fresh. During my last mass phase I gained a bit if muscle during the 6 month period however in the last 2 months or so in the program I made no progress. I was about 10-15 pounds off my goal and thought i could at least gain some of that in the final 2 months, but had no such luck. I didn’t even move up 2 pounds in the final two months. Why does this happen and how can I improve in my next mass phase?

He also looks like he gained alot of muscle and nit an ounce if fat. I haven’t heard him say anything about going on a cutting phase after building muscle. How could he have gained so much weight without an ounce of fat and have one of the most defined abs and bodies in general I have ever seen. He truly looks the part of a warewolf. I don’t think I could think of anyone with a better body to play that role.

  18. Trey says:

Vince, you are very full of yourself. I don’t know why you keep saying Taylor is no Vince, I would definitely rather look like Taylor Lautner than like you. You have a weird body shape and you aren’t proportioned as well as Taylor. I’m not jealous or anything, I am just trying to tell you you aren’t as amazing looking as you think. And if they were calling you Rambo they obviously have not seen the movie.

  19. joyce says:

i don’t have any of the equipments needed in the gym so that i can keep in shape. Do you have any thing a book or DVd i can obtain so that it can guide me out? And can i have execises that don’t require any equipment?

  20. Matt says:

40-80 seconds of tension seems like an awful long time. How many reps does this come out to? Assuming a cadence of 2 for the concentric portion and 3 to lower the weight this comes out to 12 reps for a one min set. I have never made progress on pressing movements on more than 6 reps! Actually I can stagnate for weeks or even MONTHS if I do high reps. I only make progress with low reps and increase the pounds literally only one pound per week! Are sure you are a hard gainer Vince? Maybe you’ve got some good genes and just burned off your muscle all those years running! You said you gained your first 40 pounds on a program out of “muscle and fitness” magazine! I have never seen that from a true “hardgainer!” By the way I was a cross country runner in college too, so your progress really is inspirational!

  21. Chad says:

    Hey Vinny, love the article!

I think it shows you’re very secure in who you are :)

I used to have the problem of over training when I was younger and couldn’t put on any muscle or mass so I think where you mentioned ‘letting yourself recover’ is hugely important and very underrated.

When I shortened my workouts, as far as duration and how many times I lifted per week I began to see gains.

Love what you have to say! Thanks!

    Chad

  22. dvdboss93 says:

You got some good points there Vince.
    1. A personal trainer can only support you , guide you and build your confidence. He can’t burn off the fat for you or pack muscle on.
    2. I just said that as an excuse that people have used although i agree with you , if he would’ve used something , he would be WAY bigger.
    3. I think it’s a bit different when you think if a movie and that you need to get in shape because you will be in that movie. It still has the same “fan” concept but i think it boosts you a bit more knowing you’ll be popular and so , you’re trying even more.

Honestly being , it’s getting kind of annoying how EVERY girl mentions taylor at least once a day now. And they don’t just mention the movie or his name , but they come up with ridiculous adjectives and literally worship him. I’m wondering what kind of body type he was. Maybe ecto-meso ?

  23. sai says:

Did he really put on 30 pounds of solid muscle? If so he should be at 170 pounds now ( 140+30). He doesn’t look that big. Maybe these numbers are exaggerated.

  24. yyaaww says:

Can’t wait to start this program, though the expenses and effort to gain anything will be high and hard i think in the end it’s going to be worth it. I’m just trying to be a good amount stronger for summer because tats when im always moving a lot of heavy stuff. I’m STOKED. definitely gotta take them before and after pics.

  25. J. Lynn says:

Hopefully a lot more kids will take tips and get motivation from the Vinny D’s and Taylor Lautner’s of the world! We would all be a lot better off!!! :)

Nice one Vince. P.S i am currently following your training advice and making good results so far

  29. Vince says:

Thanks Travis. Maybe I can figure out how to train Taylor for part 3 of the saga and take him even beyond…

  30. Travis says:

I don’t really follow the whole Twilight deal or Taylor Lautner for that matter so I can’t say he is a role model for me. I personally like to make my role models people who were in the same shoes as me when they began but changed all that. Since I’m an ectomorph I like to look up to people who were ectomorphs like you Vince!

I agree, Taylor Lautner is no Vinny D haha. Your absolutely jacked man. And whoever said Vince has “chicken legs” you’re jokes, take another look at his picture.

I think the MAIN EXCUSES for teens to not follow taylor are these:
    1. he had a personal trainer that told him everything and was around him everywhere
    2. he’s rich so he might’ve been able to buy all the powders and who knows what
    3. he had more confidence cuz of all his fans

I figured that making excuses is pointless. If Vince, as an extreme ecto, got that body.. then i’m really wondering if there’s such a word as “impossible”

You main some interesting points boos93.

    1. he DID have a trainer which is a HUGE advantage no doubt but Taylor still had to lift the weights. I know guys at my gym who have personal trainers but they still look the same cause they don’t push themselves.

    2. He never mentioned anything about supplements. If Taylor was on “anything” than he would be 10x bigger.

    3. Sure, if a blockbuster movie doesn’t motivate you to get in shape – you’re SCREWED…lol But everyone in life has “fans”. I consider my friends, family and girlfriend my fans. I’m sure you have your own fans too.

I’m in the business of doing the impossible :)

    Respect!

Interesting James. If it’s not fun, don’t do it. A very dangerous motto for life. I hope this is not what our world is coming too…

I’m glad you identified that, perhaps, you could be the guy in your circle of friends that shows them otherwise.

    Will you accept that challenge?

In the DVD kit, there are over 10 different workouts to choose from and ALL of them can be done at home. You WILL need to use the exercise substitution chart in some cases but it sounds like you have the bare essentials to make the program you want to choose from, work.

Some of the workouts DO have more gym training equipement but there is ALWAYS an alternative. Just requires some interaction on your part.

I want to reassure anyone reaading this that a huge percentage of my customers train at home successfully. You will be the next great one!

Training is an art, not a science. Your body is telling you to ride your bike. Listen to it. i said you can do cardio, it should be minimal for the majority during a mass plan.

  43. Mahdi says:

There is no alternative for cardio. It is scientifically verified. Why? Let me explain!
The cardio is only thing which pushes your blood to stream over all your body and brain!!! If you look at every single bodybuilder you will easily realize that they are suffering from brain inefficiency in different ways. It has a few reasons, but I am going to outline only two of them which are playing the big roles!
One is the lack of balance at the hormone level in body. It has the negative effect over all the body systems! Second is the deficiency on blood supply for brain. Of course these issues are not that easy to get discussed here, but could be a faint spark for your sport life. Good luck
