The Bad and Ugly of 12-Week Fitness Contests

By Vince On September 7, 2009 Under Featured Post, Miscellaneous

12-week fitness transformation contests have been incredibly one of the best ways to motivate you to get into great shape.

But there is an ugly side to some of these contests…

Not everyone follows through and completes the transformation contest.

Many people are uncomfortable taking their before  and after photos and embarrassed to share those pictures with the rest of the world.

People who enter transformation contests that run for 12 weeks seem to fall into one of three categories:

  • * Drop outs
  • * Rebounders
  • * Winners

1) 90% entered the contest, but they lost motivation before it was even over. They DROPPED OUT and usually felt bad about themselves afterward. They felt like failures or worse… they were devastated and became indifferent about fitness by adopting an “I don’t care anymore” attitude (the most harmful attitude you can have).

2) 7% would say the contest was exactly the kick in the butt they needed to focus their energies for 3 months. In 12 weeks, they got in great shape, maybe even the best shape of their lives. But when the contest ended, they lost motivation, they lost their physical peak and they REBOUNDED so fast, it was painful to watch.

3) 3% of the people got more motivated than they’d ever been before. The 12-week contest was the catalyst for a long term life change. They got in the best shape of their lives and they stayed in shape afterwards. All the people in this top 3% group were WINNERS, even if only one person could win the contest.

  • What’s the difference between these people?
  • What must you do to be in the top 3%?
  • How can you achieve your short term goals, and make those results stick?

The answer is simpler than you think:

The top 3% who achieved long term results did NOT force new behaviors with willpower…

They also did NOT rely purely on the external reward factor such as a prize.

The top 3% worked hard physically and took advantage of the external leverage and accountability that the competition provided. But they didn’t stop there. They also worked on the inside and trained themselves mentally as well.

If you immersed yourself in a program of “mental training” and “mind re-programming” at the same time as you started a physical fitness program, it would unleash your maximum success potential.

It’s for these reasons that I give two thumbs up to Scott Tousignant’s unstoppable fat loss transformation contest, which starts on Monday September 14th.

The Unstoppable Fat Loss Contest is unique because there’s no need to feel anxious about before and after pictures.  There are none required.

Instead, it will be judged on your mindset and motivation transformation and it will teach you how to make a mindset change and turn that into a permanent physical change.

If you take the time to work on your mind, then whatever physical transformation you undertake in the future, you’ll get the most out of it, and the changes will stick.

The Unstoppable Fat Loss transformation contest is designed to create key mental shifts that take place deep on the unconscious level…

Ask any psychologist, hypnotherapist or neuroscientist and they will all tell you the same thing: the non-conscious mind is where true change takes place.

Your actions on the outside are merely a reflection of what’s going on inside:

What goes on inside? More than you can possibly imagine:

  • Your self image
  • Long held childhood programming
  • How you talk to yourself
  • Your mental attitude
  • Your belief systems (unconscious programs that run behavior)
  • Your values (an important type of belief)
  • Your ability to control your mental state

By entering the Unstoppable Fat Loss transformation contest, you’ll learn how to master all of these vital aspects of the INNER GAME.

The 97% who failed did not understand that long term changes do not come from willpower – they come from changing the unconscious programming. Willpower only initiates a new change, it doesn’t make it stick.

HERE’S HOW THE CONTEST WORKS AND WHAT YOU NEED TO DO NEXT:

* To enter, go to:

  • There is a purchase, but unlike some 12 week contests, it’s NOT supplements. You get something infinitely more valuable that will last much longer: A program that teaches all the inner game secrets that I explained above.
  • You will listen to Scott’s “Unstoppable Fat Loss” MP3 audios and apply the motivation and “mental game” strategies you learn.
  • You will provide feedback about the how you are applying the motivational strategies into your day.
  • The contest begins on: September 14th.
  • Winners will receive a prize package which includes.

=> my No-Nonsense Muscle and 6 pack abs 9 disc dvd set21daychallenge

=> Tom Venuto’s Body Fat Solution (paperback book)

=> Shawn Phillips Strength For Life (paperback book)

=> Joel Marion’s Cheat To Lose Diet (paperbackl book)

=> Jon Benson’s 7 Minute Muscle

=> Prograde Supplement Platinum Package

and several other prizes.

This might be the first true innovation in the fitness contest arena since Bill Phillips launched his hugely popular
transformation contests more than 10 years ago.

I’m sure this type of challenge will get even bigger in the future, and surely it will be imitated. But today, you have a chance to enter this one of a kind unique mindset challenge.

Never again be a drop-out or rebounder. The challenge begins Monday, September 14th and there’s still time to join by visiting:

Hey Vince,

Yeah, I definitely agree with the fact that to be successful in transforming your body you have to have the proper mindset. I competed in several transformation contests in the past and had limited results even though I was training hard and eating right (or at least I thought I was.)

I began studying a lot about the mind from various perspectives both scientific and philosophical. The more I learned the more I realized that any negative and limiting beliefs you may have could hold you back from making the transformation you truly desire. Now that I’ve been focusing on reprogramming my mind, studying and learning, and having the right focus I’ve been seen a lot better results by far.

I’ve also been talking a lot about this very subject on my blog and how to harness the power of your subconscious mind.

Have a great week!

Yes, another way to lose unwanted bodyfat or build the body you want is the “dream body” trick. Photoshop your head on the dream body you want. then look at it everyday and talk out loud about each body part that you have right now starting with I HAVE LARGE BICEPS, I HAVE A SMALL WAIST AND RIPPED ABS, etc. Then visualize yourself as the person in that dream body. It makes it easier that you Photoshop-ed your head on that body because you then program your sub conscience mind to build that body. You can also visualize yourself having fun working out or lifting heavier weight to bust through plateaus.

I use all of these methods and it has worked every time. You have to also feel what it will feel like to have the body of your dreams, such as, feeling confident and happy about your achievements. This is critical that you feel it. If you do not do this, you will only reach 50% of your goals. All of the professionals do this trick and it works every time.

There are certain universal laws we live by on this planet and the law of attraction is a big one. Say you have something right now, feel it, then take action towards it and the law will take care of the rest…period. ;-)

I agree 100% that 12 week body transformation contests can be a double edged sword. On one hand, they allow you to learn the fundamentals of body transformation, but on the other hand, they leave you high and dry…you’ll have a ton of motivation in the beginning of the 12 week program and then lose all of it by the end. It’s not exactly a great way to parlay your progress over into your everyday regular life. If you really want to achieve lasting muscle building or fat loss results, then you’re better of just shelling out a few bucks for a system like yours that can teach you how to live a healthy lifestyle year round!
